New CVO with cooked motor?
So I this I have become a victim of the M8 sumping issue. Bike has been at dealership for 3 days and not looked at yet....
2018 CVO Ultra 117ci 115th Anniversary Edition
Left on Iron Butt Ride to Daytona with 1101 miles on bike. 50 miles after 1k service at selling dealer. After 550 miles fuel mileage goes from 39mpg to 18mpg, bike has NO POWER and can barely get out of its way. First i thought the EITMS got stuck on so i manually disabled it. No change in performance or MPG. 855 miles into the ride at 80mph on highway the bike shuts down and all lights come on. Coast to the side of the road and park it. Engine is too hot to touch. Take dipstick out and oil is barely to hash marks. Smell of burnt oil and smoke from dipstick port. LEt it cool for 30+ minutes and no start, just crank. Call AAA and 5 hours later a truck shows up, towed to nearest Harley Dealer. Selling dealer comes 200 miles to pick up bike after wife had come to get me. Next day the dealer delivers a loaner bike but as stated they have had CVO for three days and haven't touched it. All i have read is they wont see the oil sumping issue now as it has had time to return to crankcase.
Not a happy camper for a $45k bike with less than 2000 miles on it stranding me 150 miles short of an IBA certificate.
I have demanded a NEW motor, NEW bike, or they can keep it and cancel my loan.
If i don't get an update on bike today i will have to get ugly on them....
I will update the group once i heard more.

HE didn't sump, IT did. Often by the time you can tell it's too late.

Well thanks for the confidence... guess it’s MY fault the bike failed. NO warning other than the loss of fuel mileage (thought the EITMS was stuck on due to a little traffic jam so I disable it) and loss of power the last 20 miles. She just QUIT, no lights, no bang, nada. And BTW the new 17-18’s don’t even give a oil pressure number in the Infotainment center, just “okay” So if ya have nothing constructive to say, shut it 😎
Now onto the repairs....
Day 8 and finally they got the bike to start up. Had to replace ECM, BCM, and crank position sensor they robbed from another CVO to test. Problem is they can’t get the codes off the old one as it is dead. Kinda puzzles me there but anyway... They are test driving the bike today to see if it will throw any codes. The Dealer seems the think this is all electrical... I tell them it’s due to high heat in the motor (no oil circulation) They agree that the oil is burnt but because ECM wasn’t firing the cylinders right and bike was out of time. It wasn’t running bad, just poor mileage and hot. Could feel the heat in legs, and when it broke I checked the oil and roasted hand, smoke from crankcase, smelled awful.
So so now it’s what caused what... they are leaning electrical, I am leaning mechanical. I do t think a 20 mile test drive will replicate the 850 mile run I did when it failed but we will see....
Already researching NC Lemon Law... not sure I will ever trust this bike again... More to come later, I’m off to ride my loaner.... BEAT it like a rental car 😂

Have over 5600 on my '18 CVO Limited already and no issues at all. Runs great, I hope they get it fixed for ya. I did find it interesting you said you were gonna "cancel your loan" and let them keep the bike. I suspect that could be a big problem as well. Lending institutions frown on that procedure....

fight fire with fire
take the bike out and run the **** out of it, in essence, blow it and give it back to the dealer. if that's an electrical problem, I'm mickey mouse! unbelievable how some dealers pass the buck to avoid responsibility. i pulled in to service once on my '17 M8 with oil puking all over the right side of the bike. first thing the tech said was "who changed oil, did you change the oil properly?" you couldn't make this stuff up!

They have a service procedure for sumping . How much oil did they recover when they took out the crank sensor? Have them check the build date and latest version of oil pump. At least you will have some questions to ask . I have had no problems my build date was January. If they have a problem with the 117 it's gonna start showing in the mid west and north east, We are starting to get warm riding weather. Best of luck and hang in there it will work out.
