Default Please share some knowledge about sumping

I’ve been trying to read all about sumping but there are many threads with a lot of conflicting information. Can someone shed some light in simple terms and answer a few quick questions please?

From what I can gather, the scavenger pump cavitates or is otherwise incapable of returning oil to tank and allows oil to collect in the crankcase leading to a low oil condition and an overheated engine resulting in engine failure. Correct?

This condition only seems to affect touring models?

My older riding buddy just yesterday picked up a 2018 107 Softail Deluxe. Is this engine at risk for this condition and what should he be aware of or watch for?

Thanks.

While I havent heard of Softails sumping, according to service bulletin, all M8s are susceptible. Read and enjoy. (well, rotate and zoom, then read. )

The Softail engines are a little different in that they are rigid mounted, dual gear driven counter balancers and cable actuated clutch. Don't know what else is different other than they do not seem to sump or any other of the Oil related maladies.
