Harley flagging warranty
Friend I know bought new 17 Street Glide from a local dealer in Al and they installed stage one and tuner (not Harley) He was on road trip in Ga and had check engine light come on so he stopped at a dealer in Atlanta area. They plugged in the ECU and Harley (not dealer} saw the changes and voided and flagged his warranty for .ever.It sucks but its real folks. You would think Harley is having enough trouble without pissing off the people that buy them!

shame on the dealer that installed the aftermarket tuner, they know the rules and can't claim ignorance..did they explain to your friend that in doing so not only would they would be violating corporate policy and that his powertrain warranty would be considered void? |
They did not tell him as most dealers I know of dont but they are gonna fix the small problem for him and help him out down the road but warranty is gone forever.

That’s the paradox of upgrading your motor with non-Harley parts. In town, your installing dealer will take care of you no question. On the road is where this exact scenario can happen...you’re only choice in the event of a major issue is to have it shipped back home |
Did he remove the tune or tuner before being serviced?
|
He should report his dealer to HD corporate. Seems it might be their fault. I smell a fine in the works.
|
Need to check and see if the person with the issue had agreed to use another tuner before blaming the dealer |

Only fault of dealer that I see is not explaining everything to him up front.
|
let's not forget that the limited factory warranty is a contract between the owner and the manufacturer, so the owner has some culpability here not reading and understanding the expressed written consent regarding their factory warranty..HD dealerships are in essence the middle man...there really isn't much excuse for not reading and/or asking questions as necessary entrusting the dealership, etc. it's unfortunate it is somewhat painful but it is what it is
