On the fence about M8 Purchase! Oil pump or Cases?
Ok.... Like the title says, I am on the fence about an M8 purchase. On one hand I figure I could get a pretty good deal on an 18 model because the local dealer has a few they need to move. However, on the other hand is the well talked about sumping and transfer issues. With Stonecolds fix it appears the transfer issue can be mitigated. So that leaves the sumping issue. With that being said I am looking for input from all the knowledgeable folks on this forum. Do you all believe the sumping issue is related to the oil pump or case design? I ask because if it's the oil pump the new S&S oil pump and cam plate may fix it. Fire away and thanks in advance for the input!

Its entirely up to you... on one hand these new m8s are one of the best motors harley has ever built and there are alot of very happy riders out there. On the other hand, there is a chance that the one you buy could sump and if it does what can be done to fix it? Just listening to guys like heatwave who are on their 3rd and 4th motors it would really suck to buy a brand new bike and not feel comfortable to ride it and not worrying about the bike stranding you.
whatever your choice good luck and ride safe.

Here's how I look at it: if you want to ride the bike, get the pump. If you want to wait for the bike to get repaired and/or flip through engines under warranty while the summer riding passes you by, then don't. Yes, I think it's that bad.
Or perhaps wait on the '19s, but give it some time to figure out if anyone is reporting sumping with them.

I’ve had mine on several long trips. I ride it hard and it keeps making me happy. Last trip when I was doing a long stretch of Highway holding 80-90MPH I starting thinking about all the M8 forums posts on sumping, transfer, blah blah. I just twisted the throttle and pushed those thoughts outta my mind. I’m not saying people haven’t had real issues in some cases. However so many of the posts in this section are the same few people that have issues. Then a lot of people asking if they should buy a M8 bike or if they should buy a used bike or Keep their 100k mile evo or twin cam bike cuz those are the best and all that. I buy what I want when I want it. If I don’t like it or something doesn’t hold up I buy something else but I don’t miss out on things I want cuz the internet has a few bad things to say.
