Default 2017 Street Glide Special Rear Shocks

Does any body know if you can change out the stock rear shocks on 2017 Street Glide Special without having to change the front suspension? I spoke to 2 dealerships and got 2 different answers

Harley shocks.Unbelievable comfort with no downside even cranking really hard through the bends !

Yes you can...no problems at all. I did it on my 2014 SGS. You can either stay with the 12” shocks you have, or go with 13” shocks for a more comfortable ride, especially if you ride two up a lot. DK Customs (Forum Sponsor) sells Pro Action shocks and those have a lifetime warranty that include rebuilds (if needed).

lots of us are running Pro Action’s now and are extremely happy. Those of us that have ran other the brands prefer the Pro Actions over Ohlins, Legends, and Progressive shocks.

Yes you can, put the super shox from my 12 RGC on my 17 RGS 2 weeks ago. Asking myself why I did not do it sooner?

I put Legend Revo-A 12" shocks on my 2017 SGS...unbelievable difference. I ditched the stock Dunlop tires after 9,000 miles for Michelin Commander 2's and have more grip in corners and no more wandering into road cracks, etc. I'm now changing my front suspension to Legend Axeo 49mm cartridges. Harley stock suspension parts are junk IMO.

The rule of thumb that dealers say is if you drop the front you have to drop the rear. I have a dropped front and went with a 13" shock. The reason being is when you set the sag the rear will drop anyway's. A stock HD shock has no sag so that's probably what the dealer was saying. Stay with a 13" shock or do 14" shock with lowering blocks from DK Customs. That's with using ProAction shocks.
Well worth the money and DK is a forum sponsor.

Yes, whatever you do, go with 13" shocks from a premium manufacturer. Stock 12" shocks are POS.
I went with 13" Ohlins HD 159s. They transformed the bike.

You lose a little bit of the "look" with 13", but your tail bone will be appreciative.
