I am now switching to lower bars (chubby 508) to see if the pain situation improves.

As apes go, I'm 5.7" with 29 inseam (so I'm all torso) and with the 12.5" mini apes I have lots of control on the bike and they are an ok height, probably a touch too low still considering what the physio told me should be the correct posture.
Are you sure the pull back just wasn;t enough for you? I had the same issue when I first installed my 12's. They were too far forward, so I was having to reach which put some strain on my back. Particularly between my shoulder blades. I loosened the riser clamp, pulled the bars back a couple of different times before I got it perfect. Now, as I said, with how far they are pulled back I could go another couple inches higher and still be perfect.

I did adjust them too, but no matter what I did I still have to reach forward a bit and got the dreaded shoulder blade pain. I guess the 14" could give me what I need, but they will require a cable change again and, to be honest, all of my previous bikes had lower bars and I had no back pain issues at all, so I'd give that a try. I might try readjusting them again though, as a last check, as I can still cancel the new bar order in case I magically find a good spot this time.

I installed Paul Yaffee 10in on my SGS. Yaffe 10” are equivalent to other 12” bars like LA Chipper etc..While the bars were of I installed heated grips. Stock Clutch cables and brake lines fit fine. I did need a 12” extension wire for the bars though. I’m 5’11 but love the bar height and feel.
