Default 2017 RGU code P0154

Out for a ride along the coast today and out of know where got the Rear O2 Sensor open code. I have a Stage II done with all SE parts including the Auto tuner, stopped by the dealer and as soon as I mention the code they said you have the Auto tuner, it's been happening a lot. Anyone else been having that problem, bike only has 3500 miles.....

I have had the same issue two times. Last year at beginning of the season, took to dealer and they said it was a bad 02 and replaced. Now same thing going on this year. 2 year warranty is up and they want $275 for a new wideband 02........very frustrating.

This what puzzles me. When a sensor throws a code, it's because the sensor is sensing something. Not that the sensor needs replacing. For example, how many times would they replace a fuse before they start trying to find out *why* it is blowing?

O2 voltage check is ok, so it appears to be the "box". Does anyone know if Harley is having issues with these???

I think the 02 sensor is very different from a fuse. A fuse is on or off, blown or not blown. The 02 sensor is always at all times "sensing something" ie exhaust gases for content. The signals from the sensors are used by the ECM to adjust engine parameters to keep the exhaust gases within range. Erroneous sensor readings may mean the sensor needs replacing.

I used to work on mail processing machines. Quite a few things would be addressed by changing out a small part rather than spending a lot of early time in troubleshooting. Most of the time, replacing the small device fixes the problem. No worries about "why." The machine needs to be back in action fast. Same with the motorcycle. The owner wants his bike back fast. Early attempts may try to get it done without a lot of head scratching. Especially if there has been a history of such failures.

Harley just recently released updated calibrations for the widebands. I would check to see if you have the latest calibration installed and if not update it before you start replacing things.
