107 M8 Oil Consumption Problems
#11
I was told by the dealer servicing my m8, that it is both common and acceptable for our engine to consume 1 qt of oil per 1, 000 miles. Where it goes, who knows. Maybe some ends up in the filter or through the cat. He couldn't answer that. Carry extra oil. My stage 3 built 80 evo on a trike conversion burns a lot less. Go figure.

That is insane this is my sixth Harley and none of them have used oil and I am not easy on them at all. So far I haven’t used any oil and I’ve got 12K on it I do however use Amsoil.
Sadly I think I have an oil pump issue it’s at the dealership now I dropped it off yesterday.
I may go with the torque cam if they do put a pump in it. Hopefully it’s just a bad sending unit.

I work in the automotive industry at a dealership and it seems like they are just giving those guys the run around working for Lexus they are quick to find a solution to common issues and are quick to cover the repair. But HD isn’t Lexus. I read where one poster said that they told him the M8 isn’t a high reving motor I would have laughed and called BS on that one.
It just seems they screwed the pooch on this one I love the power it has but I don’t know about going past a stage 2 the internet as helpful as it is it is full of misinformation also.
Opinions are like a holes we all have them just seems likes it’s not just one thing causing our known issues be nice when someone comes up with a surefire fix.
I normally see that much oil usage with rings or valve guides and or seals.

Seems to be hit & miss which bike uses oil and which doesn't and from my experience it doesn't seem consistent. My 17 RK used 2/3 quart in the first 1500mi. then none added the next 2000, another 1/2 qt before I took in for the head gasket change @ 5K. No use in the 1500mi. since. I don't think it's using it in the traditional sense as much as the breather system pushing it through the injector body while running, notice I'm adding when mine starts spitting in the air cleaner which it doesn't do all the time.

OPs oil usage certainly is not normal. My 17 used about a quart in the first 1k miles. After the 1k mile service, it used another 1/2 quart before the 2k mile mark. Then it seemed to completely stop; no more oil consumption up until I traded it with 7400 miles.
My 18 has just 980 miles, but hasn't used any oil in that time.
