Default M 8 oil consumption

My 2017 Limited dipstick was at the Add Oil line after 2,300 miles. How do you measure oil consumption? Does anyone I know what the graduations on the dip stick is and then relate to how much oil it takes to top off to the full mark, so that I can accurately track the oil consumption? Cheers from Denver

Defective rings could be the issue with all of this oil consumption but usually you see some smoke coming from the exhaust, especially when the ride is shifting gears.

I'd prefer to believe that the problem is related to crankcase ventilation or a little less likely, valve seal/stem issues.

I bought a new '02 Chevy Avalanche and before I took it back for the first oil change (3,000 miles) it had used a tad over 3 quarts of motor oil.
When I had it serviced, I complained to my friend (Service Manager) and a couple of weeks later he called me and asked if I'd drop by so they could take another look at my vehicle. Turned out that it had the incorrect PCV valve. They changed that and the truck never "lost" any oil after that.

And a $32,000 investment that you can’t trust on vacation is no laughing matter.
KarlVan..... Any update news to share?? Asking as I just returned form long trip on my 2018 (RG Ultra w/Stage 2) and experiencing same issue! Consumed 1 qt every ~1800 miles. Been very closely checking after my 1000 mile service, at 5300 miles now. Had to add 8 oz. Trany oil at 500 mile too.... I am quite worried. 4th Glide in 20 years, first one that ever used oil.

I bought a 2017 CVO street glide, broke it in and put 2000 miles on it. It burned 6 qts. No smoke etc. Took it to dealer, factory hadn’t installed skirt Oiler manifold correctly. New top end under warranty. Just got back from 2500mile trip, running hard and loaded, used one pint. I think it’s fixed.

So your ok burning an ounce every 156 miles? Guess its better than every 10 miles

How do you like the Rushmore? I love my '15. No M8's for me.

It's a nostalgic experience, isn't it? Just like the pan and early shovel motor days!

Track consumption seems simple....... I start by check level on dipstick as per manual (run 2 min., warm engine, on jiffy stand, close to #2 mark) at start of long ride or bi-weekly if just running around home. Then when I have to add it, then it is down 1/2 or full quart. Note mileage to figure how much it used between adds. I am "assuming" that the dipstick marks between #1 (Add Qt) and # 3 (Full Hot) = 1 Qt. and this seems right by what I have seen on mine.
