Default 1-Year Anniversary and Report

On this day in 2017 I purchased my 2017 RGS and took it home with only 6 miles on the clock. I have ridden this bike more in this one year than any other bike I've owned. The experience has been fantastic and I have no regrets. All of the miles to date were accumulated with a series of day trips and my daily work commute. I'll be taking my first multi-day, multi-state 1500-mile trip (in the Rocky Mountains, no less) in a couple of weeks, and have the utmost confidence in my bike.

@ 9,280 miles I have not experienced any oil consumption, no oil sumping, no issues with the clutch switch, and only minor transmission fluid transfer. My bike has never been back to the dealer for anything since I've purchased it. I do all my own maintenance and upgrades. First service was at exactly 1K miles, and the second service was performed at 5K miles. I will do the 10K before my upcoming trip. I use H-D fluids and filters with every service, Formula+ in both the transmission and primary, Syn3 for the engine oil.

Mods in Order of Install
  1. TAB Performance slip-ons w/ 2.5" baffles
  2. Modified stock air cleaner housing and installed K&N filter
  3. Tuned with Power Vision PV-2
  4. Rinehart Slimline Duals header
  5. Changed baffles to TAB Performance Zombies
  6. Replaced TAB slip-ons with Rinehart MotoPro 45s
  7. Installed H-D docking hardware and detachable backrest
  8. Installed Rockford-Fosgate front and rear kits with amp, HD14-TKIT, TMS69BL14 respectively
  9. Installed Kuryakyn "Heavy Industry" grips
Warranty Notes:
  1. Transmission fluid on 'add' mark as of this writing (over 8K miles since changed @ 1K) - will top off with 10K service
  2. Had to adjust headlight immediately after purchase as it was aimed way low
  3. Front brake fluid reservoir cover has slight seep even after properly torquing screws - there is an updated part number and I have purchased it, will install at 10K service
Ownership Experience
  1. Rides now as it did new
  2. The handling and power of this bike is phenomenal IMHO
  3. Tires will likely require replacement in another 5K miles, give or take
  4. Never any performance or starting issues
  5. Cosmetically looks the same as new (no oxidation, fading, wear, etc.)
  6. 45 MPG consistently on highway
  7. Slight, intermittent lifter tick when warm, otherwise engine remains very quiet
  8. Fluids have looked clear and healthy, no excessive metal on drain plug magnets
  9. Smiles, smiles, smiles
Next Year Plans
  1. S&S 475C cam, adj. pushrods, and lifters
  2. Factory 47 bars
  3. Chrome clutch and brake reservoirs
  4. Chrome grips
  5. Mirrors
Overall, I'm very happy with the bike. I'm looking forward to many more miles on it, and get a lot of positive comments about the Hot Rod Red Flake paint job. I've only seen one other bike in my area with this paint, but it was on a SGS.

Thanks! I keep all of my vehicles looking like that. I've never traded or sold anything that I bought new looking anything less than new. I am equally **** about maintenance.

I had to replace my front right master cylinder cover as well. It started leaking and at that point i have found replacement is the best option. Thise gaskets are touchy. Goid report thanks for sharing.

I love riding my 06 Softail in the first year I owned it I rode it for 9,900 miles and this my second year of ownership I have already done 9,700 miles in six months. The more I own it the more I want to ride it and living in Florida gives me more time to ride it.

Thanks for posting... I just came up on my 1 year anniversary as well. My thoughts mirror yours almost identically. Only issues were master cylinder gasket leak, front rocket box gasket leak, and left turn signal indicator failed. All serviced under warranty.

On my second rear tire, which was changed at 10,000 mile service. Pretty happy with my stage 2 performance mods, which include the fuel Moto head pipe, Cyclerama CR460 cam, S&S MK45 exhaust, and tuned by Wes at Cyclerama.

Your hand grips stood out to me... Might have to get myself a set. How do you like them? They look great btw.

Man, that's a great looking scoot! Awesome to hear about another positive experience.

The grips are awesome. Very beefy, solid feel, and comfortable with the rubber strips. They blend well with the stock controls. I was ok with the stock grips, but the glue gave out on the left grip so I decided to go aftermarket. So glad I did. I don't have big hands but the extra diameter feels so much more comfortable on longer rides. Reasonably priced as well. Thanks for the post!
