The 114 has been offered in five of the Softails for the 2018 model year. And the bugs seem to be truly worked out already: not one has reported sumping, and this engine/transmission combination is immune to the fluid transfer issue too. Of course, if they put the same transmission in the RGS/SGS as they have in the 2017/2018 RGS/SGS, you might see continued fluid transfer, that's a transmission issue and not an engine issue.

What am I missing?
crankshaft (119) vs. rear wheel torque. You can't compare Harley's quoted engine spec to what a Stage kit will result in.

I've ridden both - the 114 is faster, while the 107 is a bit smoother.

The 114 can also have a 117 stage 2 or 3 kit installed by the dealer.
After your two year warranty is up the 114 can be bumped up to 124 with an aftermarket big bore kit like the one offered by
Fuel Moto, the 107 cannot.
from a 107 ? http://revperf.com/124mke8bigbore.php

Take a look at fuelmoto’s Charts. They got around 107 ft/lbs out of a stock 114 and 125 ft/lbs out of their 107 to 114 stage 3.

My experience too, and I've ridden over 25 or so. The 114 pulls a wee bit more, but the 107 is smoother. I'll take the smoother one since it's a Tour bike.

I'd like to see some more evaluations on these two motors from users

I've watched a couple of Youtube videos that have come out recently where the mutually exclusive reviewers indicated the 107 was a little "snappier" and they may have even had a slight bias towards it but both praised the 114

salesman today again indicating though the 114 feels stronger

so I'm curious, knowing all along that any felt performance in the seat is probably subjective instead of objective, but comments are always fun to read

How is there anything subjective about it? The 114 is slightly bigger in displacement and stronger in power.

Harley's own tech specs list the 114 as developing about 118 ft/lbs of torque, and the 107 producing 107 ft/lbs. Independent dyno tests verify the difference.

Subjectively, your seat of the pants may.not be able to tell much of a difference, if any. Objectively, the 114 is a slightly bigger and slightly stronger motor.

Shorter stroke delivers quicker revs. Albeit marginal from the only slightly longer stroke of the 114 vs 107.

I never even considered the 107 when buying my M8. While the stock engines have plenty of power, i know eventually i am going to want more, and that makes the 114 a no-brainer. Harley had 3 bikes i was really interested in; the Breakout, Fat Bob and Sport Glide. I discounted the Sport Glide because there is no 114 option available. Only reason i'd go with the 107 is if i planned on keeping it stock. The 114 is a much better platform if you plan on future power increases, and even stock it's worth the extra cash for the extra power over the 107.
