Default Synthetic or regular oil?

I have a 2017 Road King with the Milwaukee Eight engine. I'm putting the bike into winter storage and was asked which oil to use for oil change. I was told no real difference between synthetic and regular oil. Both are good for 5000 miles. What are the pros and cons of both oils for the Milwaukee Eight?

Don’t put oil on your tires.

For me, once broken in, synth all the way. But there's 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 different opinions on this..

No such luck. I'm going to say this just once (in this thread)...

Maximum engine wear occurs at startup. Synthetic oils are better at flowing during startup and thus protect your engine better during that time, period.

The only reasons to go with conventional oil after the initial break-in period are:

1. Your a cheap a$$hole.

2. You don't give a damn about your bike.

3. You're a Luddite and/or can't understand what I just said.

4. You own your own oil well.

That should end the conversation, period.

good article on synthetic vs conventional...your opinion on that is different than some..on the one hand we have in depth analysis, and on the other hand we have your opinion based on ..well, just some really weird comments

"Most engine wear takes place in the first minutes after cold-starting, as a result of the time it takes for oil to circulate to all parts. Thus wear prevention is mainly a function of the additive package, and not of the molecular origin of the oil itself."

Why don't you just google oil test reports and learn for your self?
Do you think some dweeb on the other end here is any smarter then you are?

Found they run quieter with dino or a blend over straight syn, upper end doesn't clatter near as much.

Dino oil = 4500-5000 mile OCI
Synthetic blend = 6500 mile OCI
Full syn = 7500-8000 mile OCI.

Your call on which you use.
