Harley earnings up as they focus on international markets and smaller bikes made in Asia.

Domestic sales way down, President recommends boycott, been a tough year.

Polaris down 7.5% today, HD down 3.5%. Hard times for all.

Default Harley earnings

That's a joke domestic sales down 13 percent, not good. Saw an article where H.D. is going to ship more machines to their dealers. Remember they can then claim them as shipped revenue to boost sales figures and up the stock price, even though the dealers can move the inventory they are sitting on. Creative accounting 101.

I dont think thats true, they only build if the bike is ordered. Either the dealer orders it for the floor or they order it for an individual. They do not inventory bikes any longer. Thats what bit them in the *** in 2008

The factories count them as sold units when they bill the dealer, no inventory is shipped unless it’s put on the dealers. Floorplan acct.. if the Factory finds the market is soft, they will put some kind of incentive on specific models to help dealers move the units..and there’s always incentive programs to help dealers that the buying public has no idea about..I would say there’s not many Harley Dealers in the Red as they have. New Bike Sales..Preowned Bike Sales..Service..Parts.. Wholesale Parts and Rentals..and don’t forget the Harley Apparel Depts...

Doesn't it sound funny that sales can be down 13% or more and they say profits are up. All that tells me is we are getting screwed on purchases! As the market shrinks they are just pushing prices to try and make up for lost sales, sooner than later it's going to bite them in the *** again.

If that was the case then why have they been raising consumer purchase prices year after year, they are not making the profit from reduce cost, as production volumes fall parts cost rise due to smaller quantity's being made.

It seems they save a lot of money by voiding warranties.

Unit sales of bikes are down, but overall revenue is up 15%. Earnings are up about 67% over the same period last year. I'd have to look at the 10Q to see if this reflects a genuine improvement in productivity, or a non-recurring charge from last year. In either event, contrary to what some were predicting (hoping for?), it's positive news for HOG.
