I've been doing some reading. A few people on other threads have suggested conventional oil for the break-in rather than synthetic. Any thoughts or reasoning on this?

The reasoning I’ve always heard is the synthetic oil works too well in reducing friction, therefore, the motor doesn’t break-in properly.

We recommend a non-synthetic oil during the break in process, primarily for the properties of zinc and phosphorus and lack or reduction of friction modifiers. This is beneficial for high load surfaces such as cam lobes, lifters, bearings, and helps ring seating. Our break in oil of preference is Kendall GT-1

Thanks for the responses, y’all! Parts are in. Bike goes in for pre-Dyno in the next couple days.

It sounds like a good setup can't wait for dyno results.

That's what I want to do, but FM isn't selling it for a Softail yet. I'm starting to get impatient.

I think you will be very happy with this setup. Im using the 475 in my 120 set up and love it! Riding style is higher rpm for sure but that’s how I ride mine. Excited to see you before and after gains.

I read all of your threads & the problems that you had, didn't see anything past the break in on your 120, did you have it dynoed or do you have any more info on it? I'm running the S&S 475 also & just trying to decide how big I want to go this winter. Any more info on your 120 build would be appreciated, also wondered what you went with for the clutch upgrade.

121/136 with decated stock head pipe and fullsac baffles. Switched to a 2-1 that I tabbed up with a fullsac baffle 130/143 tunes in St. Cloud fl. Clutch setup is just the aim lockup. My best advice is Exhaust makes a major difference with the s&s cam.

(NOT my bike) Stock 2017 107” as delivered vs same bike with S&S MK45s, SE Heavy Breather, and unlocked ECM. I found this map at the shop I’m using to tune my bike. I’m including this one not only for those wanting a baseline vs Stage 1, but also to compare to my Stage 1 (main difference being the power vision and Fuel Moto’s base map). This showcases the increase you can expect from fuel Moto’s base map.

This is my 4th gear & 5h heat pulls with no tuning other than Fuel Moto base map.
