I read from a reliable source on another forum (he has worked as a tech at a dealer for years) that the ESP coverage is getting as strict, if not more, than the factory warranty. That said 1500 is cheap piece of mind. Just be careful with the mods.

Paid 1300 something bucks for an additional 5 years from DiscountESP. Check them out if shopping around.

I think there are several factors to consider. I think of it this way - if you ride a lot of miles every year, and want to keep it, it may be a good idea.

But I wouldnt think in terms of "will it pay off?" or "will I spend more money on repairs than if I just fixed things as they come?", the way I think of it is that you basically have made your repair cost a known fixed amount, essentially capped. It that's important to you along with the other factors, then I'd say go for it.

I negotiated my esp free into my last purchase so that's always an option as well, was like pulling teeth but got them to agree with what I asked for.

That's pretty good food for thought right there. ESP is pretty well like any other insurance. It's something you have to pay for, and you might use it or you might not. In the end, you'll either be glad you had it or you'll see you didn't need it. You can't predict whether or not you'll need it, but you do know that these companies sell it to make money on the law of averages, not to make repairs more affordable for the biker. So with that said, if ESP gives you peace of mind as you're burning up the miles, it will be worth the cost.

With regards to EPA restrictions, check the small print within your ESP. It may be different with different policies, but mine is very clear... my ESP plays by the same rules as the HD manufacturer's warranty. Another thread here indicates that aftermarket (tuner) IS covered by Jim Palmer at Discount ESP.

Well THAT would certainly make the decision a no brainer. Any chance I can get you to come with me the next time I buy? Lol

I am buying a '19, and am not buying an extended warranty. If if have less than stellar luck with the bike over the first 23 months or so, they I will consider getting one from an alternate source.

Actually I just looked at my contract, and because I am buying thru the Overseas Military Sales they include 4yrs of manufacturers warranty/ESP for free, as well as the 1K and 5K services. I guess I will just have to roll with that.
