I like it... it’s not for me, but I still like it. I like looking at Ferraris too, but I don’t want one.

I don't care what anybody thinks that's cool.

This is an interesting modification that I found on an West German website. A 2018 Street-Bob is converted from EFI to carburetor, with the stock CAN-Bus completely removed. Going "old-school" with new engineering.
i was in “West Germany” when the wall came down, did they build another?

I applaud this this guy ... he’ll be the first guy riding after an EMP goes off in his region.

Actually, I think Chucky-x who is registered here at this forum is an author of this invention can tell us more

Personally, I would love to have that idle and throttle response. However, with S&S cam the idle would be prettier. I considered converting my future bike to carb for that lullaby sound but would like to have a functional digital display like in his first
and second video

I love how times change.

1995 - "Stupid Harley with their shitty fuel injection, I'm gonna switch it back to carb, that'll fix all these bad running issues..."
2019 - "Stupid Harley owner, why would he switch his M8 back to ancient technology? It'll run worse, less power, etc..."

Wow those are some reactions..The Altmann ignition are pretty good..they have a programmable timing curve, rev limiter range etc..lots of folks have been doing conversions to their twin cams and sportsters with these systems for a while now. (even used in some beemers and V8's)

At the base of it the M8 is still an engine, so why not..there was a Speed Merchant Softail FatBob at the Mamma Tried show last year which had a carb on it. I was actually waiting for this guy to do this, it just put a smile on my face when i first saw the video almost a year ago.

Yes EFI is great, im all for it but Carb's are simply cool (and yea having too many will make you fat too )
Peace

I have to admire his skills for figuring all that wiring out and actually getting it running!

It’s amazing to me he had the wherewithal (and courage!) to make those changes. With the bike unencumbered by BCM and EFI, I wonder what type of power the motor can produce. AND, as Ip said, the idle is pretty cool.
well, let's see a 60's corvette with a big block got 10 MPG and make what about 300 HP? and a new one with a smaller engine is pushing 20 mpg and 600+ hp? i'm gonna say his experiment is a big fail lol

Hahaha..remember when ppl said than the M8 motor was s*!t and that Harley's end was eminent when they ended the dyna.

Also at end of the video when the bike actually sputters and stalls, and the guy slightly chuckles..that's soo classic man, i love it

Well the 'how to's are also quite elaborate on the Altmann website..but yea kudos to him for actually doing it.

The title of this thread is misleading...CAN bus is not actually removed..the Altmann system works with the stock wiring harness by using signal from the CKP or crank position sensor for its timing. U can see from the video that the oil and the check engine lights are on. Bet the ECM is going crazy unable to find the signals for CKP, TPS, IAC, MAP etc and putting out codes all over the place

Now see why this is soo Awesome and funny (knowing ppl's reactions) at the same time.
