Crazy idle when not moving
#21
Well I just learned something, I was not aware of this "feature". Have not experienced any weird idling so went and checked my bike and it is disengaged. I plan to keep it this way. Just curious if you install a cam with a lope (or what we now call a lope) what does the EITMS do to the idle?

While this is a 100% accurate answer I got the answer I was looking for today. Installed S&S 475 cam in the M8 today. Has a great lope however, after riding for awhile in traffic and sitting a red light. The lope turned into a steady pop, pop, pop and the idle came up to about 1100. I thought something was wrong then remembered this thread. Sure enough when I got home (couldn't remember process, had to get manual) I checked and the EITMS was enabled, thus causing one cylinder to shut down (as mentioned above) and sounding terrible. I have disabled the EITMS as this time. Will see what it does when I get back out to ride.

Has nothing to do with rejecting because new and different. The sound with my set-up is horrendous. I will remember how to enable and disable so if I get into a situation that warrants enabling I can do it on the fly. Not gonna tear up my motor but not gonna sound like sheeeet when I am bopping around town.

i believe this was helpful….. quick search and I found this….. this is exactly what seems to be happening on my 17 fxdls…. Just got it a week ago and noticed after a while at a light the idle changes and sounds funky…. I was concerned until finding this thread. Greatful for finding this thread.

Nothing new about the EITMS system, been around for many years now. Just goes to show you not many people take the time to read and learn about their bikes. I know the op was on the road somewhere, but people need to buy a service manual and do some reading while on the throne.
