Inspection plate on a Slim
#3
Lucky you! $48.00 last year and I was just told 52.00 this year. Have to put stock mufflers back on, no vertically mounted side plates or frames of any kind etc. I say again, Lucky You!

Those plates are only $10 and you can find them all over the internet (example). Just make sure it's legal for you to mount on the bike anywhere you want. In Texas as long as it was visible you could place it anywhere.

The general safety inspection for any road-going vehicle in Texas is $14/year: you pay the shop $7 and then pay the state the other $7 added to your yearly registration fees. If you live in one of the counties of a major metro area, passenger vehicles (cars and trucks, not motorcycles) are required to get emissions testing - this is an additional $40 paid to the state. These dollars are mandated to be spent on environmental "efforts" - whatever that means. There's a reason it's the state's Department of Revenue that collects these moneys.
In Texas, they do the "Texas Two-Step" registration (no joke, that's what they call it). What this did was eliminated the inspection sticker, so as of 2014 we no longer have these ridiculous plates on the bike (or hideous stickers on the windshield). You must get a passing inspection before you can renew your registration, which eliminates the inspection sticker (if you've got a registration sticker, it means you've passed inspection. Previously, you would renew your registration, which could be anytime throughout the year because it was 12-months from whenever you renewed your inspection, and your inspection would be tied to your birth month. So, two different stickers for two different things at two different times - some people would get one and not the other (for whatever reason).
