If it were me, based on the circumstances, I'd go along with the general consensus here. Yes, I'd go ahead and buy new tires.

You won't regret it, but you might regret NOT buying new tires.
As usual, excellent feedback from everyone. The last sentence above pretty much summarizes it. Now:
- AEs or C2s?
- What oil to use for the trip?
- Where to put my gas cap, when we stop for fuel?

I really think when my stock tires are gone I want to try the new metzler cruzetech. They just came out this year. It’s supposed to be a sport bike inspired tire but it uses dual tread compound for longevity.

OP Update:

I just made an appointment to have new American Elites installed on my ‘17 Ultra Limited. Made at 8 Ball Tires in Escondido. $490 out the door, after a current $60 Dunlop mail in Rebate. I’m going to have them install RideOn.

I got 21,000 out of my stock rear tire and will get about 24,000 out of the front. I would not replace prior to a 4,000 mile trip.

Maybe on the rear, but I am not aware of any touring tire that has anywhere near 10/32/ tread on the front.

5/32 on front and 10/32 rear. Rear wears out first. More info for you here:
