Default Stock speaker blew, so what replacement speakers first then amp

So my stock speaker blew today while riding. Got to go to the dealership tomorrow to see if my warranty expired. If so, don’t have the cash to do a full audio upgrade, so will have to do it in steps.

Used search and can’t believe the prices in some of these systems. Not interested in a system that will wake up the entire town, just want to listen to Led Zep while riding on the highway with my full face on.

What is a good < $300 set of speakers that I can add an amp later in time. I want to spend less than <$1000 altogether installed.

Check these guys out … they have great reviews. The have great systems … and speakers. They've also created a harness to retrofit the HD GTS to Rushmore model years 14 through 18.

Yeah I checked them out. cheapest speakers were $300 and the 2 channel Amp was $450 alone. Then the tuner was $500 as well. Man that is a lot of coin ($1250) even if I do the install myself. People are all over the place in the audio systems section.

I’ve checked J&M (over $1K), Rockford Fosgate ($900 for speaker, amp & bracket kit), Biketronics... man what happened to the good old days when Hogtune speakers were good enough (had them on my 07 SG).

I went with Infinity Kappas, I started with 2 Kappa 62.11i in the fairing & later added Kappa 62IX in my lowers, the 62.11i have been discontinued & replaced by the 62IX. They are a bolt-in replacement & have about the same volume as stock, but are clearer sounding than stock, I later found a J&M 360W 4 channel amp @ discount for about $450. The 62IX should work fine just as a replacement until you decide what amp you want, they're on Amazon & Ebay for $109.95. Go to the audio section & you'll find more info, you just have to search a little to find your price range as a lot of guys there spend big $$, there are amps better & cheaper than J&M, but I wanted plug & play, I'm happy with my system for around $650, oh I also spent $50 for some Hog Tunes speaker covers to replace the cheapazz looking HD covers.

If you go to the tech & mechanical forum there is a sub-forum for audio systems. There are members on there that know a bunch about audio and what works and what doesn't. I put a set of Polks in my 15 RGS. Had to trim them a bit to make them fit, but the sound is great. I am driving them with an amp. Those speakers were about $125 on Ebay. I think you can get a sufficient amp for around $150. It would get you by until you could afford something better. The speakers were Polk Audio MM652 6.5" 2-Way Car Stereo Marine Boat ATV Motorcycle Speakers Pair. Here is a link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Polk-Audio-...item2a9985035a

I just got to thinking about it, I probably have the stock speakers that came out of my '17 RGS around someplace. You can have them if I can find them, just pay the shipping. It will be less than $20.

Thanks Stonecold for the generous offer. I went to the dealership today and my warranty is going to expire in the first week of July so I’m covered. The dealer submitted a claim and should get a call to pick up the new speaker later this week. Now I got some time to do a lot of research for my upcoming winter project. Thanks.

I would still be looking at the Polks if you want to upgrade in the future. I think they are as good or better than Biketronics. I have used Biketronics a lot because they are plug and play, so I have a reference. Get on the audio forum, you'll get great info there on what works and what doesn't.

Man, get you some infinity kappas. They're great speakers for around 100 a pair. I have them in my bike with a soundstream amp and am more than pleased! None of them will sound much better until you put more power to them though. The SS amp I bought was 120 bucks I think. $ channel so if you want to add another pair of speakers later, you;re covered.

Installation, if you pay for it, then flashing your radio for the amp all in I think you should get out for around 400 to 500 counting the parts.
