Default Engine break in?

Sorry if there is a thread out there but I’ve tried multiple search words and 20 plus pages for every iteration and nothing pertaining to my question.

just picked up a RKS tonight and was told nothing over 3000 rpm’s for the first 500 miles. Holy sh** this engine wants to go. I’m not going to stretch the rpm range but have you all stayed religiously with that recommendation?
I will/do vary the rpm’s. Always have with break in.

thoughts form the collective?

save the “ride it like you stole it” please

You actually think the Forum engineers on here are smarter than the Harley owners manual. One of those rides it like you stole it guys is probably doing perfectly well when he gets another one in 2 years!?

Now I do believe it is broke in a thousand miles with modern tolerances. Why Harley wants you to stay in the range they tell you is new things can break and torques can be off. They don't want it coming apart at 6K and 115 MPH. Their lawyers have it figured that at 3000, the lawsuit just maybe you and not the next of kin and 4 children.

If you don't break it in according to the book, you stand the chance of:
Excessive oil usage
or
Sumping
or
Oil transfer.

Sarcasim!

Have fun with your new bike.

it ain't rocket surgery..picture a football field and keep the rpms between the 20 yard lines, vary the throttle and they say up to 3500 is permissible after 100 or so miles, I extend that to 4k + in occasional brief bursts thru the gears..they are being a tad conservative, lugging and holding steady throttle for extended periods are the worst things you can do..by 3-400 hundred miles when operated properly it's pretty much broke in

Not sure about HD's but BMW's are run on a rolling dyno to the rev limiter in all 6 gears before being crated and shipped to dealers.

Keeping a brand new bike within RPM and speed parameters in accordance with break in procedures in the owner's manual is difficult--but I do it. Why take a chance? I spent a lot of money for a brand new bike and I want it to last a long time. Yes, 500 miles of riding per break in instructions ain't easy lol.

Hmmm, bought my bike with stage 1 and the HD tuner gizmo with the bike. Tech claimed it was dynoed. Wonder if that dyno run brought it over 3k RPM’s. Many a folk that do new engine builds will get in third gear and do the 30-60 mph WOT ten times over to seat the rings. Does anyone that buys a new bike do anything like that to seat the rings?
