Pics of changing out the damping ring spacer.

Recently change the damping ring in my 17 RK to a the thicker one that comes in the 19s. Clutch seems to work better. Friction zone wider. Even clunks a little bit less. Has a little bit of a stutter in the friction zone (not bad but noticeable). Suspect that it just need to seat in a little. It's does not lighten overall pull but does for the first part of the travel in the friction zone.

Not going to show draining, floorboard or cover removal.

Loosen 3 screws each 1 to 2 turns at a time. You want to remove pressure evenly. If you don't you can break the bolt standoffs on the clutch hub.

Slide all the plates out. You can see the damper spring an final plate.

Keep the plates tighter in order.

Spacer is stamped, sharp edges facing out.

Ring and spring installed.

SM is wrong about how to install the cover. Place only the first friction and steel on the pressure plate. SM says friction, steel, friction but it's easier to put the one friction in the clutch basket.

The spring in the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder will push out on the plate so you need to hold it in while installing the screws. Again, tighten bolts 1 to 2 turn at a time evenly to not break the bolt standoffs in the hub.

Final check just to make sure the pressure plate has movement. I got 0.110" tho the gauge only shows 0.095.

This check probably not needed.

Cover assembly can be figured out on your own.

I swapped mine out too, when I added the primary vent tube, easy job, and a noticeable improvement in my opinion. no noticeable difference for me other than engagement point. instead of the dial indicator, I just pulled in the clutch lever lol

Is it thicker or more Belleville spring cup? What is your guess on the total windup of for Harley's latest compensator movement? There was a recent post on someone saying his bike felt like clutch was slipping or it was jumping a tooth in transmission on hard third gear run. Surely you can fill that much travel on a hard shift. Mine just clacks if I hit it hard.

it's just a thicker spacer, the belleville washer is a different piece all together.

I was going to add the vent but, the dealer didn't have the vent kit in stock. Took the parts guy 1/2 and hour and talking to the parts guy that works with the parts department some time to figure out the kit. Funny that the counter guy didn't know about it. I guess there really aren't that many having issues with transfer. I typically get 3-4 oz over 4000 miles and figured to install it incase I ever got around to selling the bike.

As mentioned it is simply a spacer. The Belleville spring is about 0.030 thick, and maybe 0.100 high (should have measured). The friction disc is about 0.148 thick.. With the spring sitting on the spacer, you got say 0.063 + 0.100 height so as the clutch is let out the spring/spacer start pressing the clutch stack together causing it to drag for say the last 0.163 (spring and spacer) - 0.148 (friction) = 0.015 thou.. Increasing the spacer causes the clutch to start dragging another about 0.016" earlier or 0.031".
