Pics of changing out the damping ring spacer.
Recently change the damping ring in my 17 RK to a the thicker one that comes in the 19s. Clutch seems to work better. Friction zone wider. Even clunks a little bit less. Has a little bit of a stutter in the friction zone (not bad but noticeable). Suspect that it just need to seat in a little. It's does not lighten overall pull but does for the first part of the travel in the friction zone.

You want to remove pressure evenly. If you don't you can break the bolt standoffs on the clutch hub. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...34997133bc.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...710646a2e1.jpg Slide all the plates out. You can see the damper spring an final plate. |

Keep the plates tighter in order. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...4b35a90d9a.jpg The thin damping spacer. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...53d05cacf8.jpg The thin one. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...01e83cb54a.jpg The thicker one. |

Spacer is stamped, sharp edges facing out. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...fe1995724f.jpg Ring and spring installed. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...6c7cba43a5.jpg SM is wrong about how to install the cover. Place only the first friction and steel on the pressure plate. SM says friction, steel, friction but it's easier to put the one friction in the clutch basket. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...28356f3183.jpg The spring in the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder will push out on the plate so you need to hold it in while installing the screws. Again, tighten bolts 1 to 2 turn at a time evenly to not break the bolt standoffs in the hub. |
Final check just to make sure the pressure plate has movement. I got 0.110" tho the gauge only shows 0.095.

Cover assembly can be figured out on your own.

I swapped mine out too, when I added the primary vent tube, easy job, and a noticeable improvement in my opinion. no noticeable difference for me other than engagement point. instead of the dial indicator, I just pulled in the clutch lever lol

Is it thicker or more Belleville spring cup? What is your guess on the total windup of for Harley's latest compensator movement? There was a recent post on someone saying his bike felt like clutch was slipping or it was jumping a tooth in transmission on hard third gear run. Surely you can fill that much travel on a hard shift. Mine just clacks if I hit it hard.
