Default M8 Maintenance check off list

Hey guys, I called the dealer to see what the cost of service is and was told it is $514 for the standard 5k service. Too steep for me to pay. The ESP requires records be kept for those doing their own maintenance, is there a Check list form floating around that details what is required so I can attach the parts receipts to it and save it in the file. there was for my 09.

you can download a maintenance schedule using your VIN if you're registered on the HD corporate website, under the Owners section

Just had mine done on a '19 RG and got out for less than $350 (and they even installed some mid frame deflectors gratis for heat). Guess I'm lucky my dealer so far seems reasonable.

You should be fine using the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual.

You should also buy a shop manual. The shop manual will have details on how to perform the jobs.

$500 is absurd. Even if I had the throwaway cash available, I would still do it myself. Doing one’s own maintenance is, IMO, an integral part of the motorcycle lifestyle.

Get dirt under the fingernails, and spend $500 on something useful or fun.

I called another dealer 90 miles away and they wanted $573 for synthetic. I asked what the 1k service cost and they said the same. 20k was more expensive as was the 30k and 50k. I ordered the service manual from surdkye last week its supposed to arrived in a few days. I couldn't believe how much they charged for the 5k change, they said its a 3hr service. ok ok. was thinking 200-250 tops.

I joined that site 6113 mentioned. it is the same paper that is in the manual. someone had created a spread sheet with the service for the twin cam before that was pretty nice. was hoping one was made for the m8 already. guess I will make my own

Hope this helps for comparison purposes for my 15,000 mile service:
Replace front tire $223.74
5K service with SYN 3( 3 holes), Chrome oil filter 340.24
Clutch Fluid service( because it was dirty looking) 55.95
TOTAL: $619.93

Taxes and misc were in addition to the above total, but those will vary by state so I didn't include them in the total charged to my credit card.

P.S. I was shocked to see how little my front tire, with labor included, cost me! Only $223.74 installed? WOW, that by todays prices is a BARGAIN!!!
