New S&S 540 Cams

Hi All,

Has anyone here had any experience with the new S&S 540 cam? I've signed up to swap out the S&S 475 cam out of my Road Glide Special that is running a 128cui Kit.

Will post the results for those that are interested.

Cheers
Peter

How did the 475 do in the 128? I'm about to do a 128 on my cvo 117 and I have the 475 also.

Are you going to change anything else or just swap cams?
What difference are you hoping for going from 475 to 550 cam?
I guess you're not happy with the 475.

Just the cam change...I don't need anything else.

I love the 475 toque cam....however S&S just released a new 540 cam (not 550) for 124cui motors and larger. Given I already have the S&S 128cui big bore kit installed, the 540 cam will match my current displacement a little better than the 475 cam.

See below dyno results mate...would of got better numbers if I had a 2:1 exhaust but I really love my 2:2 (its an OCD thing with me). No regrets on installing the 128cui kit - best thing since slice bread.

I would go try the S&S 540 cam while you have the bike apart. Its a cam better suited for the bigger displacement motors.

Got it, 540.
Cool, that's going to be interesting thanks for the update.

You have to change the valve springs too, right? Or have you already done that?

Yes you are right - the valve springs are getting changed out as well now that I am gong to the 540 cam.

Ok, silly question about the valve springs. Say you want to replace them on your stock heads when you put a bigger cam in. What's the process for this without taking the heads off? Any tricks or special tools?

Thanks
