What speakers were hooked up to this?

 

It was powering a pair of Arc Moto 602s. It sounded good but I could tell they needed more power so I replaced it with a JL MX500/4. Now they are getting a bit over 200 watts and I have more headroom as well. Gain on the B52 was set to rated power with a multimeter so I wasn't beating on it and it has very little use. It really is a great budget amp.

 

I'm audio dumb. I see the B52 puts out 200W @ 4ohms, the Moto 602's peak at 160W. Are you now overpowering them?

 

The specs on the Cerwin Vega website are wrong; the manual says 150W x 2 @ 4 ohms which is what it actually does.

According to the Arc Audio site the Moto 602s are only capable of handling 90W but many guys on this forum with far more knowledge of bike audio recommend powering them with at least 150W but preferably 200W. I'm honestly not sure where Arc Audio came up with the 90W figure but from experience I can tell you 90W barely makes them dance. So technically yes I am overpowering them but they'll take it.

Also I wouldn't pay too much attention to the peak power handling figures; RMS is what's important.
