Default Insurance Coverage

I noticed there was an insurance section here on hdforums but it seems pretty lonely, so I am posting here. With looking at getting back into riding, I've been looking at insurance. Do you guys typically match your auto insurance coverage levels? Does anyone know any companies that offer a discount with an auto/motorcycle bundle?

At the moment I have one vehicle with GEICO. In a motorcycle insurance quote I got from them using the same levels of coverage, the cost was about the same as my car. Didn't know if that was standard.

My auto insurance is about $600 annually and motorcycle is about $400 annually, so it's quite a bit less and I have the same coverage levels for each. It's highly unlikely that one can do $500k worth of bodily injury or property damage on a bike which is what I carry. I have those high levels so I can get the matching uninsured or underinsured coverage in case someone takes me out and has crap or no insurance coverage, so I can "sue myself" so to speak and still have robust medical/income replacement type coverage for a bike accident. Hell of a lot cheaper (if a lot more specific) than disability insurance.

I got Progressive and its about as cheap as you can get. Most insurance won't put a bike on with your car insurance. I found a couple that would but they were high. I think mine is $172 a year for full coverage with Progressive.

It depends on what type of motorcycle you will be insuring. On a Sports bike I had (Suzuki GSXR 1000) I was paying more than double for that one compared to a HD Touring model. As for the HDs I have insured, it's about 20% under my vehicles policies with GEICO. That's with a clean record.

You could also look at Markel, they specialize in power sports insurance. I'm in Michigan currently, the land of some of the highest insurance rates in the country and Markel did lower my rates for the exact same coverage I had with Progressive so the bikes are now insured through Markel...

For those that said they have "full coverage" what does that mean? What are your levels of coverage? What are your deductibles?

Right now on my auto insurance I have I think:
Bodily injury liability $100k/300k
Property damage $50k?
Uninsured/underinsured $100k/300k
Collision/Comp $500 deductible

The quotes I've gotten from Gieco/Progressive put this at around $450/year, which is what my auto is (Geico).

I will check out Markel today, thanks.

Currently using Markel. They saved me a ton when I switched over to them when I had a 15 RG Special. Now, I have a 17 RG Special and it just keeps getting higher every year. I called today and she told me I had depreciating deductible, ok, I'm good with that, was no advantage in raising my deductible to save money, maybe $10 or so. Looking around now to see if I can get down to where I think it should be.

HA!!! I just tried Dairyland, I don't what I did wrong, but they were 2.5X more than my Markel policy !! Geico, which I have on my GMC truck and a Haulmark trailer was about $90 more.
