Default Time to shop for insurance again.

Just got my renewal from Allstate and they raised my rate from $344.00 to $401.00. No claims or tickets to justify the increase. I switched to them a year or two ago because Progressive kept bumping my rate. After having Progressive bump me a little each year for about 13 years I had had enough. I sent my State Farm agent an email asking him for a quote. Just for grins I just requested a quote from Progressive, came back $403.00. I always read about some of you getting great deals on insurance but I never experience that. For a reference I have a 2010 Ultra Classic. Last time I had a claim was 2001 with State Farm, I dropped them because of how they handled it.

You might want to check with USAA. They used to be only open to military but now I believe they've opened up to everybody. They usually have some pretty good rates on insurance. Could be worth a look.

Due diligence says shop for quotes every year- I do. House, cars, RV, bikes, classic policy...all of it.
the fear of churning keeps them honest.

2.) talk to the ins company of you have a question- make sure if comparing you are apples to apples- they may spot something.

3.) HOG? my same ins policy is $50 less through HOG than on my own.

as it works out my best situation is Progressive for everything except the classic cars and bikes- they are with condon&skelly- but have use limitations.

Each owners situation and which State you are in will have a huge effect on quotes.

I got rid of State Farm because of my agents terrible service. Went with Markel. Haven't had to use them yet. So not sure about their service.

Recently got my renewal for both my bikes ... both are through State Farm ... my '96 Electra Glide is $192 ... my '08 Sportster Trike is $137 ... both rates are for 1 year of full coverage ... I have several policies with State Farm, accident/ticket free, and have been with them for 50 years so I've added up some discounts

State Farm raised my rates with not accidents, or tickets. They went up over a $100 per year, so I cancelled them and got Geico now and saved over $200 per year.

When I traded in my 09 Road King and got a 11 Limited, Progressive Insurance almost doubled my rate. I called them and was told the major factor was the engine from a 96ci to 103ci. I said to the agent you know this a Harley not a Hyabusa. Ended up with State Farm, first time State Farm ever beat another company for motorcycle insurance.

USAA doesn't do motorcycle insurance but the do use progressive as an affiliate and provide a nice discount as well. I am using that program now and have yet to get an increase.

As for the comment of them now being open to everyone I don't believe that is accurate. It is open to military and family of military. Unless something has changed, which I hope not as the customer service is unmatched as well as the claims process. Once it's open to everyone the service experience will erode.

USAA subcobtracts through progressive, they were expensive when i inquired at the time. I use Dairyland for mine but not sure if they are in your state or not?
