Insurance went up when I turned 65 some years back for both bike and car. I complained to no avail at CS. Was told it is normal for rates to go up at that age. Now that I am 72 bike is about $28 and change a month. Car insurance is less that $300 for 6 months. No big raise when I hit 70 or beyond.
Maybe it is time to shop insurance and find a better rate?
Life insurance rates are locked so no increases there.

Let's face it as we age we start to deteriorate. Reflexes get slower, eyesight's not so good, hearing starts to go. Not to mention the mind is not as sharp as it used to be. Of course this doesn't apply to every single person out there, truth be told there are 70 year olds who are in much better shape than I am at 45. But for the most part the majority of 70 year olds should not be riding a motorcycle. Hell, some shouldn't even be driving a car.

I routinely switch my insurance companies, they tend to see-saw on rates and change frequently depending on if they want additional business in a particular state/region and category. For example, last year my auto insurance with USAA seemed high, I went to Geico and it was cut by 53 % for the same coverage. More than half. I had Progressive for my motorcycles and found out Geico was 27% less on motorcycles, so switched to them as well. Guess they want the Northern Virginia market moreso than the other companies.
I still keep USAA for my homeowner's insurance, because they always pay claims the other companies balk on. For example, hail damage on my roof a year ago was $ 34,000 to replace that and one large window, they did it without question. Others in my neighborhood who also filed for new roofing were denied.

Whiners? ... Self insuring ? ... Looking for the best return on yor investment is far from whining. Inferring that self insuring is is a viable option is just as ludacris!

Youre right, time will tell. If you and Yooperbigdog had read my post I said its not the case with every person. But its a fact that as we age we start to get slower and things just dont work like they used to. I meant no offense to anyone but I stand by what I said. And I will add that anyone 70 or older and still driving or riding should have to be tested yearly.
