Progressive or State Farm
Dairyland raised my insurance by almost 60 percent with no claims, tickets or accidents. So I'm switching. The cheapest quote I got was from Progressive. State Farm was about $60 more a year for the same coverage. I have my house and cars with State Farm.
Which would you choose?

Insurance
I have never had any coverage other than State Far since 1960. I, too, have my home autos and my Sportster insured with them. Several years ago, I shopped insurance. Our local Progressive agent seemed clueless when I asked for a quote. I know agents make a huge difference in how claims are processed, and maybe Progressive is a good company, but not for me. When I asked about road-side assistance and towing, the agent didn't know whether they offered or not. He went no further, just talked right past it. I asked him to bring another agent in to find out. "I think so," was the reply. A similar experience with GEICO. I have a pretty good driving history, but not without blemish. I lost control of my Acura when it aqua-planed on a lonely road near Augusta, GA. I called my agent, and he found a place in the closest town that had his office in a feed store. They had my car repaired at a local body shop, got us a rental car and sent us on our way. They did not increase my rates or cancel my insurance.
In the early 90's I crashed my treasured 1983 Laverda RGS. Based on engine displacement, year and mileage, it had a book value of $1,600. They sent out an agent who knew motorcycles. I showed him comparables in Walneck's and Cycle Trader, and he covered at a value of $6,000 - of which he said State Farm would pay 80% - a value of $4,800. Fortunately it didn"t cvost that much to repair and I got it back on the road again.
Dollar-wise my coverage cost is within a few dollars of any quotes I have received. My biggest fear is that of being denied coverage after an accident and then trying to find a company that will accept me. I am quite happy with State Farm. I don't want that "Khaki-Pants" guy calling me in the middle of the night, but I am glad he will answer my calls.
