Progressive Insurance Rip-Off

First, the demographics: I'm a 64 year-old, well-educated rider of some 42+ years with an excellent credit rating. I have purchased Progressive Motorcycle Insurance for many of those 42 years....In fact, all but one of those years, about 12 years ago, when I tried DairyLand. I regularly take every motorcycle safety course I can take. I have no violations on my driving record and have never filed a claim of any sort with Progressive.

I recently purchased an 07 FLHT, and yesterday received my premium notice for the next year. My coverage is as follows:

Bodily Injury Liability = $15000 each person, $30,000 each accident
Property Damage Liability = $10,000 each accident
Personal Injury Protection = $15,000 each person, $30,000 each accident
No uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury or property damage.
Comprehensive @ $500 deductible.
Collision @ $500 deductible.
Custom parts and/or equipment = $1000 coverage.
Roadside assistance included.

TOTAL 12 MONTH PREMIUM = $805.00

Thinking this amount was really excessive (I don't mind paying fair prices at all, but HATE getting ripped off), I went online to do a search for alternatives. The result?

BikeLine (Markel American Ins. Co.) quote for one year withidentical coverage = $358.00

So long, Progressive! I value loyalty, but not atover twice the price!

I just left Progressive for Safeco. I did it because of their politics. They insure illegal immigrants with no license and are a very far left (George Soros type) organization. Being a right winger, I had no choice. To each his own.

And oh yeah. I saved money in the switch also. Not a bad trade.

Holy smokes! I'm 56, been ridin' (legally) for40 years,805+ credit rating, clean record etc etc..

My coverage:

Bodily Injury Liability = $50,000 each person, $100,000 each accident
Property Damage Liability = $25,000 each accident
Uninsured/UnderinsuredMotorist= $50,000 each person, $100,000 each accident
Comprehensive @ $1000 deductible.
Collision @ $1000 deductible.
Custom parts and/or equipment = $3000 coverage.
Roadside assistance included.

12 Months = $319.00
Guess who? Yep, Progressive Casualty Insurance Co.

The only real difference I see is you have personal injury protection and I don't. I'm guessing that's the same as under/uninsured motorist...My deductable is higher as well.

Hmmmm... I'llhave to look around. My last policy when I had the 80" Shovelwas with GMAC insurance, who seemed plenty reasonable. I went with Progressive on the suggestion of one of the H-D folks.I was a bit leary of the name since 'progressive' has become just another word for 'liberal' in the worst sense of the term...

I pay $400 per year with AARP Foremost with almost all the same coverages as you except I carry a higher 100/300/50 liability and prop. damage and no roadside assistance as I carry the deluxe version with HOG. My custom parts coverage is $2500 I think and their policy includes total replacement for the first 2 years. I also live in the Phoenix, AZ, metro area which has high insurance rates so your $805 per year with Progressive is insane. I wouldn't insure with progressive if they paid me. Their CEO is a far left wing socialistic ACLU loving liberal which was all I needed to know to not even look at their rates.:D

I didn't know that about Progressive. My policy is up for renewal. They raised my rates a bit as a financial risk based on my credit rating. I don't have a mortgage, car or motorcycle loan because I paid them all off and I pay the 3 credit cards in full each month. One card is a business credit card that the job requires me to hold. I hate wasting money on interest.

BTW, I noted that several guys carry the minimum on property damage. I don't know what the stats are for damage caused by motorcycles in an accident, but I'll bet it's more than the minimum required. I also have a pretty good idea where the rest of the money would come from to cover damages that the policy doesn't pay.

Sounds like they're gearing up forelection-time if they're as left-leaning as we're hearing about. Someone's gotta pay for those political contributions I reckon. Sounds like it'll be back to GMAC for mewhen this policy expires.
