What's everyone paying for insurance?
Just what it says in the title, I did a search of the forums and didn't see an existing thread. I'm paying a little over $500 on a '17 SGS (Progressive). A buddy of mine is about to buy a new Honda Valkyrie and he got a quote from his guy of $168/year. Different bike and different company, but the difference in price seem extreme. Curious of what other HD owners are paying.

I got rid of Progressive a long time ago. Initially they gave me a low price, then over the years, they kept jacking up the cost. I went with Dairyland, very reasonable. They don't have all those fancy TV ads that you have to support thru your premiums. For instance, I have multiple bikes insured. 9 years ago, Progressive charged me $85 for insuring a DR350 Suzuki dual sport for 1 year, liability only. This year with Dairyland, I just paid $23.

Unfortunately, Michigan has some of the highest automobile insurance rates in the country partly due to our no-fault system and partly due to what I call a "scam" an unlimited medical fund that is managed by the state and costs us $192 extra (on each and every vehicle) that is added to, and collected by the insurance companies
I have Progressive Ins. on 3 bikes but I may do some price shopping the first of next week as I'm getting a new Tri-Glide but I'd be surprised if I can get a much better rate than I get where I am now.

My situation is not typical. Insurance is to protect from a catastrophic loss. With 26 paid for bikes in the garage it is obvious that the loss of one would not be a significant loss. So I opt for the min liability required in Illinois so it costs me about $700 per year for all of them. The reduction in cost over having full coverage on them every year will pay for one every three to four years.
I am investigating getting a surety bond for $100K which when placed with the DMV makes you a self insurer for liability and the annual cost of the bond is far less than the current $700.
Even if they all went up in a fire I would just start over.
Even the average of $26 per bike is 1/3 to 1/4 of what the average person pays for liability coverage. My rate is due to zip code, age, credit score and ticket history. So with no insurance claim in my 62 years of driving and no tickets and well over 800 FICO score I have the lowest rate that Markel gives. They beat Progressive, Geico, Allstate and the others dramatically. Geico wanted $2,200 for the same coverage.

VelRed,
I just grabbed my policies. I have multiple bikes insured, I get some discounts for HOG membership, safe rider, etc, I insure an '04 EG Classic, no collision, just liability....$65 for the year. Also, a '17 Ultra, full coverage, collision, etc....$228/year. I just sold a '12 Limited, had full coverage on it.....$123/year., A '96 Low Rider, liability only....$35/year. I also insure a '12 Triumph Tiger 800, full coverage......$128/year.
Hope that helps. Dairyland doesn't have all those fancy ads, just a small one in some motorcycle magazines, the AMA magazine, etc. I've always gotten a good response from them when I've called with questions etc.

$340/year for full coverage on a '14 Street Bob, '13 and '10 Triumph Bonnevilles, and an '08 250 Nighthawk. Also liability only on a '65 Honda Dream. This is for my wife and I, through Progressive. When we added the Honda Dream to the policy, the premium went down about $10. When we added the Nighthawk, it went back up $3. The Nighthawk actually has everything available, 0 deductible, roadside assistance, etc and it didn't affect the price at all.
