Just one note to my post above (page before). Two and a half years ago I had a speeding ticket in my truck. Once that drops in November I'll be able to get Progressive at the same exact coverage for $321 a year, at that point I'll see if Markel drops the price too.

Default California Insurance

California is an expensive state for liability insurance. If you want to compare options, I'm licensed in California with multiple carriers. We can check to see if you are better with them vs what you've found.

I like American Modern--they offer flexible coverage options with extremely competitive pricing. Let me know if I can help!

People dont realize you can cancel ANY insurance at anytime, get the new policy, call your old company and cancel, simple and easy. You have been screwed by HD.

For others in this thread,
What you pay for insurance is up to you, we live in a free country. Your rates are based on your personal responsibility. You can buy from any company that you want, if no one wants you or they are all expensive, well then, its most likely you, your credit score, driving record, claims history, where you live ect.

Every year you should be spending 2 hours getting ins quotes online for all the ins in your life. The longer you stay with a company, the higher your rates will be because they know you wont switch. I switch ins on my home, cars, bike and boat every year or two, whenever I find a better rate and not just at renewal time, any time of the year.

Here is my insurance on my 14 Road King, Im not thrilled it went up about $30 for the year but its still acceptable part of the reason I suspect is Markel cuts your deductible in half every year you are with them, yet I will still get new quotes from other companies and drop them like a rock if I find a better price or just call them and tell them to raise my deductible back to $1000.
My ins cost is $425 a year and the highest I ever paid since the bike was new in 2014. If I did away with under and uninsured coverage it would be $250 but why the heck would I, under and uninsured coverage is truly 100/300,000 dollar coverage exclusively for me if someone with no money god forbid hits me and my wife..

I THINK YOU HAVE TO BE OUT OF YOUR MIND IF YOU DO NOT GET UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED INSURANCE ON YOUR POLICY. The reason its more expensive is because there are WAY to many under insured and uninsured on the road and you are screwed if one of them T-Bones you. gosh, if there is anything that helps you if someone with no money and ins hits you its your own ins policy to make up for it.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this. My Comprehensive coverage is $583 alone! I have no speeding tickets, credit score in the high 700s and the cheapest I could find in Georgia is what I currently have which is $1092 yearly premium. I shopped for quote from 4 different insurance companies and they were all within about $100 of each other.

Cruisn, I dont understand, wow, your right next door to my state.I fit the same criteria as you do, except 1- 2.5 year old speeding ticket. I should have posted my geico or progressive quote for $100 less then the 425 until they found out I had a 2.5 year old ticket on my record.
The other difference of course can be local area claims on other bikes.
Also, my bike is stored/garaged at my house, not outdoors, married and (umm) getting older *L* But I never paid as high as $425 even when the bike was brand new in 2014, it was always in the 350 range.

Try Markel ins
.

One other thing to remember with ins cost also relates to model of bike your riding.

Much like automobiles, it would be a lot cheaper to insure an SUV vs a SS Camaro . The cost for insurance will also be based on claims cost for that model. Not as much as a exact science with bikes since there are far less of them on the road compared to other vehicles.

Exactly! We see this all the time with brand new models. The first year's premium might be dramatically different then the renewal. It will pay to re-quote for the first (2) years of a new model. Remember you have until the bike is (2) model years old to lock in the replacement coverage for as long as you own the bike.
