Congrats to the buyer (and seller too)!

To the buyer: just learned this recently. Assuming you are indeed from Illinois ... you just saved a some nice dough! Illinois sales tax when buying a motorcycle from a private seller is a flat $25. But, a purchase from a dealer pays the regular state sales tax rate.

See http://www.revenue.state.il.us/TaxFo...eTax/RUT-5.pdf -- Lower right hand corner, "If the purchase is a motorcycle, driven cycle, 3- or 4-wheel all-terrain vehicle (ATV), or motorized pedalcycle, the tax due is $25".

Thanks.. Yes I am aware of the $25 used motorcycle tax. I usually buy mine slightly used for that exact reason. It really helps ease the hit of buying a high dollar bike by the tax savings and the depreciation of a bike once it rolls out the dealers door.

Boy, it would be nice to have something like that in Californy! But instead they are raising our registration fees as much as $40.00 a year starting in July based on the value of the vehicle.

Ouch!

Illinois yearly motorcycle registration, iirc, is $41. Same cost for all motorcycles.

If only it was a $40.00 increase. Goes by the book value, so newer vehicles will pay dearly. In the hundreds. And that's in addition to what we currently pay. Have to thank Gov. Moonbeam for bribing others to sneak the bill into law. He's doing as much damage as he can before his term runs out. We'll need another candidate for governor like Arnold who cut DMV fees in half because that's what got him elected.
