I recently had problems selling my 2010 Ultra limited. I advertised it heavily for over six months at $11,900 hoping to end up with $11,000. When I went to Cycle trader it was always in the 10 cheapest of 2-300 nationally. Never got a call. One weekend I was asking a buddy about it and what he thought. He sent me to a friend that was sales manager in the local dealer. The way he explained it was the guy that was going to buy my bike had $2-3000 and would finance the rest. If someone walked in with $10K or so they put it toward a new bike. He also explained that all the options did not raise the price, just made it sell sooner. Being frustrated I agreed to bring it in. There was same model but different color on the floor for $13,900. They priced mine the same. He mentioned that when someone walked in they usually chose between the 200+ bikes on the floor. Not generally comparing to anything outside the dealer. Three weeks later I got a call saying they had a deal that would net me $10,500 and should they take it. I took it. Have no idea what they got but I'm sure it was more than my ask. And it was someone that financed it. What I also found out later was HD would generally finance private deals. Problem is you have to have a solid deal so they don't get lured to something else while in the dealer doing the paperwork. GOOD LUCK:icon_beerchug:

Thanks!

The real problem is that the market is saturated with 14, 15, etc. due to the Rushmore project. As far as dealer's offering price....it's really funny how they tell you that your options have no effect on the value....then when you are looking to buy that same used bike and question why it is so expensive...answer, "Look at all the upgrades the bike has"

I always felt that the real question to ask a dealer is how much they plan on selling your trade-in for. The usual answer is either a good deal lower than they actually do, or they tell you they're not certain yet. The latter is a lie....no dealer would make an offer on your bike without having a pretty good idea of what they plan on pricing it at.

I have no real delusions. I have seen bikes similar to mine sell for high teens up to $20,000 (not common)...this bike truly is immaculate, as I know everyone believes their bike to be immaculate. I just have to find someone who wants a late model black touring bike and doesn't want to spend $20,000 or up. A perfect case of "right seller" finding the "right buyer"...EVERYONE s happy.

Thanks again for your comments!

...it just takes time & be patient. I sold recently a '15 RK with 3300mi on it. Several dealers called me and offered me $10,500 to $10,750 range. I told all three that inquired that you'll just put it on your showroom floor for $15,900. They all also said it would need "serviced". I laughed at all three. I said I did the 1K service and bike had $1500 worth of extras. I told them the bike was cleaner than any of their used bikes in their showrooms and the "needing serviced" line was a bunch of BS. Took 2 months to sell & I was one of the lowest mileage & lowest priced RKs nationwide. Ended up getting $14,500. Paid to put it on CycleTrader & Chopper Exchange, but sold it through Craigslist to someone that lived 27mi away. Kinda funny too, after I got a deposit on it I had three serious buyers, two of which were mad I had taken a deposit on it !!!
