1977 FXE Super Glide

2nd owner. Was completely restored last summer and only has about 300 miles on the rebuild. S&S heads, New piston rings, push rods, electronic ignition, new paint and chrome. Starts first turn of the starter, or first kick, and runs great. Have the original exhaust and seat. The bike is in the LA area. $12,000.

That is one pretty restoration. Belongs in a museum.

I don't need her, but I sure do want her!!! Good work on the restoration, hope she finds a good new home.

Nice "custom" finish but far from "restoration" quality. Still you did a very nice job and the future owner should be pleased.

If it was blue you’d have a perfect match for my first big twin. Congrats on a gorgeous bike!

Mismatched wheels and alot of chrome. What else?

Looks like everything except oil pump that could be chrome is chrome (including nuts and bolts). A bit suprised the caliper boomerang bracket is still painted black. He upgraded his front brake disc (original is solid zinc plated steel and ugly as heck). Exhaust system (he has original) and seat (he has that too). Rider's foot pegs. Maybe kicker arm. Heads (but those S&S heads do wonders for Shovel motors). Voltage regulator and probably stator as well (good thing if he used Cycle Electric). Screw type hose clamps.

What is very cool is that he has the Pig Snout carb backing plate. They are very rare and very hard to come by. Only used for 1977 to E-1978 FX and Sportster models.

Other thing unique to 1977-1978 FXE models is that you cannot add forward riders footpegs. For 77-78, MoCo actually cut off the mounting tab on the right side of the frame. You can clearly see it in the third pic showing the right side of the bike. Not sure what AMF genisus thought of it or why.

The seller has put a lot of time, effort and money into his bike. The bike presents very well. Think his price point is going to make it a bit tough to sell (at least in my neck of the woods). Most FX models around here, even if almost completely stock, top out at around 7K. But all it takes is the right motivated buyer.

My accessory catalog only shows a 7 and a 16 spoke (pic above) rear cast wheel for 1977 and parts manual just lists the 7 spoke as an option. Looks like the seller's is 9 spoke (first available in 1979)? Still doesn't take anything away froma nice piece of history.
