Default 1978 Harley Davidson FXS Low Rider

Primarily in original condition and unmolested. I am the original owner who bought it new from a dealer about 40 years ago. The machine was gone over and refreshed years ago and has been ridden about 25-30K since. Excellent condition.

NADA tops out at $14,500 for these now.

$11,500

More pics and info available.

Current brakes for about 25 years are Performance Machine 4-piston front duals, Brembo FO9 2 piston rear. All of the original brake components, front and rear, have been retained and go with the bike.

What's the fitting running off ht espot where the tappet screen plug is usually located?

From the air cleaner cover and backing plate it appears to be a 1978 and not a 1978-1/2? Was it ever converted over to electronic iginition or is it still points?

Good looking bike that is damn near stock. Very nice.

You have a very good eye! That fitting that you see connects to the oil pressure gauge that is mounted close by. The stock plug cap is included for anyone who would want to eliminate the gauge.

You also are sharp in noticing the air cleaner and backing plate. Yes, this is an early '78 that was basically a continuation of the '77 model, the first year of the Low Rider. H-D later eliminated the chrome oval air cleaner and replaced it with the big "breadbox" cleaner.

The stock points ignition was swapped out about 25 years ago for a genuine H-D Screamin Eagle unit that has been flawless. I kept the complete points ignition set and it goes with the bike.

I don't HAVE to sell this bike and I don't want to sound like a used car salesman but this motorcycle runs sooo good. The original stock Keihin carb is set up just right and provides a strong acceleration pull that will surprise many people. It won't outrun my late model Twin Cam but it won't be far behind!

I ride it on occasion. It will easily cruise at 70 and 80 is no big deal. If I am feeling adventurous, I'll run it up over a 100 for a little while.

Nothing has the sound and feel of a Shovelhead. Lots of character in this thing that is missing from the later engines.

Here's a short video I made of a start-up a day or two ago:

By the way, the bike is located near Pensacola FL and Mobile AL.

Own a 1978-1/2 FXE that is stocks sans a couple of wires and rear brake caliper (early 78) and adding 10 over pistons on the rebuild. Came with the the correct Ham Can as well as the 77-E 78 Pig Snout backing plate and oval air cleaner cover. The cover you are using makes the bike look so much better.

At any rate. Free bump on a nice bike (the FXS is the best looking narrow glide HD made).

Happy Thanksgiving.

Some folks also called it the "Ham Can" air cleaner.
