A trip to Yellowstone without going over Beartooth Pass is a great opportunity missed. this is one of the most scenic and funhighways that I have ever ridden. DO NOT miss it if you are in the area.

Regards,

Bill

There are parts where I wouldn't want to walk to the edge and look over, but it's a full-width 2 lane highway. I definitely did my sightseeing at the pullovers instead of trying to look and steer at the same time, though :^) The main thing to know is that the weather can be VERY different at the top than it is at the bottom. Last July 2nd there was sleet, snow and freezing rain at the top.

DON'T be intimidated--it's beautiful.

It sounds like we bettertakeBear Tooth Pass, thanks for the info. What about leaving YNP on the eastern side? A ladyat work told me she didn't enjoy this road either but then again she had a van full of screaming kids.that doesn't sound fun!

Depending on which of the 3 roads you take at least one of them is a fairly steep decline but the road is good and not dangerous at all in my opinion.
Depending on when you go the weather may dictate which road you take.
Enjoy, it's beautiful.

If you leave YSP on the Northeast side(Highway 212)you are going to be going right to Beartooth Pass. If you leave through the Southeast entrance(Highway 14/16)you will be headed straight to Cody, Wyo. I have been out the Northeast entrance a few times, but have never been on road out of the Southeast entrance. That route does go through some mountains, so maybe your friend just doesn't like any mountains.

Regards,

Bill

Oh yeah and Chief Joseph Highway ain't bad either.
While in Yellowstone be prepared for sudden stops. There's lots of wildlife and cagers will stop in the middle of the road to see a bear, moose, eagle etc.
The road that goes out/in the northwest is always good for elk sightings.
Obviously don't miss the Tetons and the rustic (tourist) town of Jackson Hole. Take a picture of the horns at the park entrance in Jacksonfor us.
