Howdy, from Texas
Just joined the forum to learn some ins and outs of owning a harley!
I'm out in New Braunfels, Texas in between San Antonio and Austin. I bought a 2015 sportster 48 after I was looking for a more comfortable bike to turn to from my buell. I had it as my first road bike and it was fun and nimble, I had to commute to school in San Antonio and the ride was just not what I wanted to deal with when I chose to take my bike over my gas guzzling SUV.
I absolutely love the 48. Most people love the idea of the fat front tire, but what grabbed me was just the fact of the forwards. On my buell, I constantly felt cramped up on the mids since I have long legs and am 5' 11".
My step dad is a harley guy, and after a day of seeing him come home with an iron, I started contemplating a street bike. In between my time owning my buell, he switched to a street bob. When I was riding around with him, we stopped at the dealership and of course the first thing was salesman coming to us trying to make a sale. I wasn't not looking for a bike, but I wasn't gonna grab whatever came my way because I still enjoyed my buell. After playing friends with them and them trying to sell me what I could tell was their harder bikes to sell like used poorly modded out sportsters, they pulled out a 2015 sportster 48 with this hard candy custom red tank and I knew what bike I wanted. This bike is such a good looking piece, and when I bought it, the previous owner already put a slip ons and screaming eagle air intake. Never did he change the fuel controller so I bought a fuel pack for cheap, but now wished I would've waited to get something better.
As of now, I went with some biltwell Zed bars to get a more upright stance for the highway and to complement the narrow frame since im a lanky guy myself. I ditched the pegs to DK canyon carvers for grip and clearance so I can get into more corners without dragging parts and not having to crank up the suspension cause I enjoy the stance it already has. Cosmetically I switched over my coil and key to free up under the tank to make it look more simple(Also from DK).
Next on my list is a thundermax ecm, to get a better tune and to support my mods in the future, D&D bobcat exhaust for the performance gain and clearance(plus it's Texas made), and a S&S teardrop AC because I love the timeless look. Maybe some cams when I get the money and time, but for my every day bike, it has plenty of power to get me in and out of traffic.
Thanks for reading and hope to see some of y'all around south Texas!
