New to Harley, not motorcycles
Just bought my Dads '99 Road King. I remember the day he bought it new (another cool story), asked for first dibs when he hung up his chaps. At 76, that day came a week ago. We've ridden from the Pacific to Pennsylvania, Washington state to North Carolina, California to Canada. He was my riding buddy. Ironically we never went for a ride unless it was 200 miles one way or more. If it didn't require an overnight stop, we didn't ride together just for kicks. Always the long haul. Riding always was and is an escape. We sought out out of the way less traveled roads and stayed out of Metro areas, though we did make exceptions for Nashville and Memphis. Going to the Sun Road, Iron Mt road, The Dragon, Bonneville salt flats, Glacier national Park, Deadwood, Redwood National Park, Nebraska Desert, you get the idea.
I've been riding street bikes off and on since 1995. Current stable also has 2 V65 Hondas, a Concours 14, and a dirt bike for my son. Rib away, I can take it, but I may throw it back at you!
Told my wife long ago when the time came I would buy Dads Road King. We have roughly 20k+ miles together and the sentimental attachment to that bike - well, I couldn't let it out of the family. I have too many miles in front of, beside, and behind that bike with my Dad to see it go away. It has 51k miles on it, looks like 10k. Its a 5mph/5 foot bike. Very clean. Anyway, I'm from NE Indiana, used to have a side business powder coating, work for the gub'ment, Army vet, family man.
