Back up after crash and RGU review
October 2014 an 84 year old lady ran a stop sign causing a head on collision which killed my best friend and put me in the hospital for several weeks. This summer I began to get the feeling again and last month I bought a new bike a 2016 RGU in cosmic blue. Took a while to climb back aboard but once I jumped back in it felt great. Thought I would share some thoughts on the new ride.
Previous Harleys: 02 Road King w/95 inch fuel injected motor 20k miles replaced by 10 Street Glide 96 inch w 255 cams and VnH pro pipe 22k mi replaced by 13 RG CVO Custom w VnH High Output Duals 13k mi replaced by
16 Road Glide Ultra stage 1 air cleaner, w/ VnH Oversize 450s and tuning by Powervision via Fuel Moto. Have ridden the newbie about 400 miles and I like it. the first thing I noticed was the new front end is really solid. Feels nice and stable with excellent feedback in the turns at any speed so far. The motor is not quite the beast that the CVO 110 was but the 103 pulls nice and smooth and is plenty fast. I do like the new aerodynamics and believe it or not the windshield is spot on. The handlebars seem to be in a good spot for me and easy to hold. Radio sounds ok and navigation is nice to have although I haven't used it extensively just yet. Paint and overall fit and finish are excellent.
Some knocks: The rear air shocks still suck. They have no suppleness at all. That familiar clunky bottoming out ride is still here. I really wish I could try some Ohlins to see if they are worth the investment. The glare off the Nav Screen can be distracting. If you have a sunny day you better have good sunglasses on to deflect the glare. I find if I move up and sit artificially high my helmet will block the sun so I can see the screen but generally i don't look at it for more than a glance anyway. I'm not crazy about the seat either. Seems to push me up to the tank unless I am on the highway pegs. Jury is out on the seat until I ride it long distance.
Overall I really like the bike and it is great to be back in the saddle. Lets all keep the shiny side up.
