Default Compensator Assy

I have read posts about the stock compensator assembly failing and replacing it. How do you know it is failing or has failed? Is it visual, sound, something felt through the bike, all three or what??

Thanks in advance.

When you finally get enough of the rattling and before you warranty expires. My compensator rattled from day one.

Baker makes what appears to be a much better-designed comp for these bikes.

So far, so good with my OEM comp - but if it ever craps out I'll put in a Baker and be done with it once and for all (IMHO ).

I posted awhile back, had an we comp put in around 55000 and it crapped out at 78000.. The sender has way too many parts to wear out, plus the auto chain tensioner causes problems. I replaced it all with Baker comp and Baker tensioner., Have ridden 2000 miles and it seems to be the fix.primary was noisy until comp and old chain got compatible. Baker is a little pricy.Comp was 400.00 and tensioner causes as 180.00. That's parts only. Did the install myself.

I have a '14 FLHTK, and ran Syn3 in all holes for the first 25k miles. The compensator knock was negligible for about 20k miles, but began to knock enough to be irritating. At 25k service, I discussed warranty replacement with dealer. He suggested I try Formula+ in the primary.

I was very skeptical but agreed to try it for that oil change cycle. I've now put another 10k miles on the bike, and replaced primary fluid again at 5k intervals using Formula+ in the primary. I've been amazed that the compensator knock has been eliminated.

I've been a huge fan of Redline products for decades, but I might give the Formula+ a try next time, since it's what Baker recommends in the primary - either that or Spectro.

I'm still on my original comp with no problems (so far ). If/when it craps out, I'll put in a baker comp. I installed a Baker Attitude Adjuster at 62 total miles the day I bought the bike and couldn't be happier with it.
