Default Weird Issue opinion

Trying to figure out what might be going on with my ignition switch. I just got my 15 EG Police about two weeks ago. In that time I have had a weird instance occur twice when shutting down the bike.

The first time I noticed it was when i pulled into my driveway, hit the kill switch which did it's job. Then I switched from on to off on the ignition but all my electronics stayed on. Lights/radio/gauges so on and so forth. I flipped back on and off and it all went right off as it should.

then night before last i was riding home, I noticed my radio was not responding to my "skip forward/skip backward" button presses but volume worked fine. I was going to stop for gas so i figured it probably had some blue tooth glitch and i would reset it at the gas station. When I pulled in, it did the same thing, I couldn't shut off the lights or the radio. Only this time i toggled the switch about 7 times but nothing.. eventually about halfway through pumping gas I tested it again and everything went out.

The problem is, it seems to be completely random. I ride every day and fire the bike up two to three times daily in the past two weeks and this has only happened 2 times. i am going to ride it til my 1k service and bring it in for them to look at, I was just curious if anyone has seen this behavior before or not? Seems kind of weird I am guessing a short in the switch or maybe my aftermarket radio is randomly causing some issues?

The police bikes have a delay when you turn the ignition off. My personal bike, 14 SG and it shuts off immediately, but my work bike which is a 15 RK police does exactly what you described. My radio, and radar will stay on even though the bike is off. After about a min they both go off. Not sure if this helps, or if there is anything that can be done about it.

*EDIT*

Forgot to add that starting in 14 we were able to turn the ignition off and keep our LED emergency lights on. Previous years we had to have the ignition on or in the ACC position for this to work. This may be Retained Accessory Power thing that's mentioned below. They may be able to program this out at the dealership.

VENOM145 my be on to something. Many cars have what is called R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power) so that when you turn the ignition off and before you open any doors the radio and any other accessories will continue to function. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there isn't a similar timed system on Police bikes to keep essential equipment running even when the engine is shut off while the key is still on. May want to take a look at the wiring diagram for a Police bike and compare it to a non-Police bike and see what, if any differences exist.

If you are going to be doing your own servicing and maintenance you might want to buy the 2015 POLICE MODELS SERVICE MANUAL - 99855-15. I think this is a supplement to the 2015 Touring Service Manual (99483-15) and it will address the differences of the Police model.

This line came from the brochure about the 2015 FLHTPs:

Power ON for emergency equipment for 30 minutes with ignition OFF

I had the same issue with the "skip forward/skip backward" working, but not the volume on a 2015 CVO street glide. i cycled the run/stop and when the radio restarted all was fine.. it's only happened once but the bike only has 600 miles on it.

CVO has a keyless ignition so not sure how that translates, but never had a problem shutting the bike off

Yeah sounds like similar situations. I appreciate the feedback. I did notice it only seems to happen when I run the "police" feature of the lights. My salesguy said they could disable that but we will see. It's only happened twice and it stays running so no worries over all. just more annoying than anything lol.

Thanks again all

CVO's keep the lights/radio etc on for about 10 seconds after shut down as well.
