Default Wiring garage door opener

I have the early 4 wire style transmitter #91559, the new transmitters are 3 wire and instructions say you must use this new transmitter on the newer bikes. How can I wire the older 4 wire style on my 2015 street glide special? Looks like the difference is the headlite low beam stays on when high beam is selected on the newer bikes.

It can be done but you will have to add an continuous duty 12v automotive relay.. Find the low beam wire on your harness ( I think it is the blue/yellow wire )and when you run power from that back to your transmitter throught the yellow wire it into the relay ...into the common (C) and out through the normally closed (NC) then to the transmitter. hook the blue/white wire to the white wire to one of the coil terminal on the relay and come out of the other side of the coil to the transmitter.. This will work by when you go to high beam it will activate the coil in the relay and complete the circuit back to the transmitter via the white wire while also breaking the circuit back to the transmitter on the low beam. when you go back to low beam the yellow wire circuit is re energized and the white circuit is broken... I did this on my buddys SGS and it works great. I am not certain if the yellow or white wire is the low beam circuit so you will need to figure that out with a meter first. I did this mod 2 years ago and can't remember..

hope this helps

Thanks Axegrinder, just what I was thinking of doing, only thing is on high beam the coil will be drawing some power but should be minimal

Just Saying but, That's a lot of work to save a few bucks.
You can get a new unit and have less headache here....

Even easier, and maybe cheaper as well. I bought a new Taiddan System with two Transmitters for $70 on eBay. Put one Transmitter on my Harley and the other on the Goldwing. Both work perfectly. On top of which the range is about twice what I had with the hand held units that came with the actual Garage Door Opener. I'm a very happy camper with his setup!

Forget all that crap and use your present transmitter. All you have to do is solder 2 wires to the proper place on your transmitter and mount it someplace under the fairing. Then take those 2 wires and add to a momentary switch mounted to the inner fairing wherever you can. $5 in the entire setup.
I just cant why guys want to go thru all the expense and hassle for such a simple function?
