If you have the cat removed, do you need a tune ? Or can you just bolt it back up and be good to go ?

I removed the cat from a 14 Road King for a friend No tune afterwards and the bike runs perfect. A little louder, less heat on your leg, all good. Everything else left stock. I am sure a tune would richer it up a bit and possible run even cooler but it is not required with this mod IMO.

If you're leaving the airbox alone and the stock mufflers on. Yes. Probably even with a better set of slip ons too.

I gutted a cat yesterday and put it on with no effect to performance that I can feel. I do have a FP3 and cvo slip ons with 2" baffles. But I didn't flash a new map. Just gutted the cat.

I did notice. No more heat.

OK, I just got up, starting the first coffee...

How exactly do you decay a late model Rushmore?

No, I didn't search yet

I had the header from my 11 laying in the shed. But if you don't have an extra you'll need to remove yours to do it.

16" x 1" paddle bit and some patience. I tried the just drill straight through method. That sucks. Then I did the aggressive jam while spinning. That made quick work of it. I took a pry Bar and scraped the side to make sure it was all removed and that's it. Put it back on you're done.

Make sure you remove the o2 sensors.

Three ways

A. Take header off, long spade bit and drill it out. As best you can. Yuk!

B. Take header off. Cut a window in the side of header to expose catalyst. Remove cat material with a chisel and hammer. Then weld window back into header.

C. Look for a decatted headpipe on eBay for $125+/- and swap it out.

O.P. For what it's worth. Bike would probably be ok. Just runs so much better with a tuner. Night and day. Especially on those Rushmore bikes.

I Know what you mean. But done right. It's just as clean as cutting and welding. I don't have a welder.

That there is the truth. I had my FP3 before I did any mods. Made a huge difference.

Personally there's no way I'd run the bike decatted without some form of tuner! I'd have mine dynoed but if nothing else get a tuner like a FP3 or a Powervision that will auto tune and then slide you some good mufflers like some Crushers or the 4" Rineharts or some 2.25" baffled Rush Mufflers and you'll be good to go.
Why tune it you ask, I know you think the bike runs fine or seems to but be realistic, look what you just removed from your head pipe, there's no way that thing will not run leaner than before, the engine is basically an air pump so the Air flow will increase through out the entire system without the cat to restrict the flow and it will not increase the afr enough to keep from running lean. Get a tuner or dynoed and you'll be happy.

I think you will find that with a decat of the header pipe, the AFR will run 2 to 3% richer because the O2 sensors are sensing a leaner condition. This has been discussed numerous times in previous posts.

Well if that's the case then it's still not perfect or even close to a good tune, and not arguing at all with you because I'm all about learning. So was this increase in the afr coming from tuners that saw this? Again no disrespect at all just like to see the info so I want post anything wrong in the future.
I'd still get it tuned though!
