A 5 minute job now turns into warranty claim...
Picked up the 12v power socket for the TP while on a recent bike trip. Go to put it on today and lo and behold, the factory over-torqued the two bottom bolts on the right, rear speaker pod and stripped out the ferrules. Only the top bolt has essentially been holding the thing on...the bottom bolts won't even back out...
So, off to the dealership tomorrow so they can "fix" that and the left lower fairing door that the plastic hinge no longer works. But hey, at least my clutch works...

Ok...so HDStreetGlide got me to thinking and I did a little looking into the pod itself. Yep, the two jack nuts just spun. Called dealership and they agreed those nuts suck. Service tech whom I've known quite a while and trust said they could order a new pod...or told me how he'd fix it if it was his own. Nut, lock washer and Blue Loctite up against the jack nut and tighten slowly and snug.
I asked why not just replace the pod...he replied, after a quick chuckle, "Cuz I guarantee the new one will do the same thing. This way you got something that is solid."
Took the speaker out and did as he said...that thing won't go anywhere. Now I'm going to do the same to the other side.
The fairing door...well, that's not as simple...

Very same thing happened to me tonight, I ordered the Aux, Power Socket, and I got 2 of the 3 bolts out. I need to get the one thats spun out, so I can attach the Aux power socket to it, (it's the bottom right one) So how does one go about getting the bolt out? I'm 2 hrs from the closest dealer,

Similar thing happened to me on a used sissy bar pad. I pulled the staples out, got a needle nose pliers in ther to hold the nut. When I put it back together I just JB welded it in and pulled the vinyl back and hit it with a staple gun. Not sure if you can do that same thing with the pods as I have never taken them off.

I noticed this when I put the speaker pods on my TP. What I ended up doing was holding the jack nuts with a pair of pliers while tightening the nuts to keep them from spinning and they pulled up tight and locked everything in place. Before I grabbed then with the pliers they were tiring to spin and it just wasn't working.
