Default Water pump failure on 2015 Limited

Just checking in to report on the water pump failure on my 2015 Ultra Limited at 9500 miles.

It sucked losing 2 days of vacation while on a trip, waiting for the part to arrive at the dealership. (Repaired under warranty, I had to pay the expedited shipping.)

I've got over 1000 miles on the new pump. So far, so good. Hope the new pump is a better, longer-lasting pump.

Nope.

And I checked with HOG for possible lodging re-imbursement - not covered with my 'basic' plan.

How long will it take for a Aftermarket quality pump to be built and available?
I would love to just have a spare

I was talking to my dealer the other day about what would happen if the Rushmore motor lost it's coolant while on the road. He said it's not going to hurt it to ride it. He said it's basically an air cooled motor with the added benefit of the coolant in the heads. I don't know how comfortable I'd be if the light came on while in the Hills but he left me with the impression I could ride it home.

The red coolant light came on (and the check engine light) during some slow 'parade duty'-type driving. At first I thought maybe it would go out/back to normal once I was moving, but the light remained on.

I checked the fuse (#5) and noticed it was blown, so I replaced it, which blew again. Called a nearby dealer. Advised me to limp it to them. They diagnosed it and determined that it needed a new pump. No other parts (thermostat, sensor, etc) needed to be replaced.

ya, that basic is just barley ok,,, for the extra $20 a year or the $29 a year is well worth it.

I've heard and read the same thing. The liquid coolant really only cools the exhaust valve area in the heads, so I would guess it would run fine without coolant as long as a person took it fairly easy on the way to the shop.
