Default HD360 Oil Changes @ 2,500 miles?

So I call up the dealer today to schedule the 5k check on my new 2016 Tri-Glide. He says Synthetic oil? and I said no the HD 20W50 oil will be fine like I did at the 1k check. He said that I should have been back for a oil change at 2,500 miles. I said that the owners manual says that 5k is the next service interval and he said that's if I used synthetic but with the regular oil it's 2,500 for the change. I asked him where in the manual did it say that and he said it's just known and he did not read all the manuals. I went back through the manual and again I do not see anything relating to a 2,500 oil change requirement. If it is a requirement and it's not in the manual shouldn't the dealers at least put it on the receipt or tell the customer so they would know?

Personally, many of my motorcycles over the years did not even have a filter so I did change the oil often, but this is the first new one I've had in probably 40 years so I'm following the manufacture Maintenance and Lubrication schedule and having the dealer do it all.

So, what did I miss here? If it is in the 2016 book, please give me the page number.

tnx
George

Dealer is full of it. They just want to make more money doing not needed services.

It's no different than when they tell you to change the oil in your car every 3,000 miles. Most owner's manuals say that 7,000 - 8,000 miles is good unless you drive in a hot or dusty environment.

I change at 2500, but then again I live in a hot and dusty area, Arizona!

Why would you let the dealer change your oil? They do not touch my equipment unless it's a recall. I don't trust them to inflate a tire.

Obviously just trying to sell you something you know you don't need. Try looking for a more honest dealer, or an indy, or do it yourself.

If someone at an HD dealer promised me the sun would come up tomorrow, I would stop on the way home and buy a pallet of flashlight batteries.

Just sayin'...

Thanks for the comments, I bought the extended warranty for it and just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss something that could come back to bite me in the future.

I'll have them put in the SYN3 from now on and problem solved.

For the past about 50 years I have been doing my own wrenching on my rides but now we live in a co-op, working on vehicles in any form is a no-no. The dealer is about 2 miles away so I just run it over there.

tnx agn

There is a difference between doing what is required and doing the best you can for your bike. Most Harley owners go above and beyond warranty requirements.

If all you care about is your warranty; you can use Harley's 360 motor oil at the recommended changes in your book. It's your ride and your call.

Personally, I would not be upset with your dealer. He is telling you what he recommends. I go beyond that. I, as many, prefer a good full synthetic oil for the engine. ( Syn3 is a blend, not full synthetic ) Synthetic transmission oil for the trany, engineered to serve as trany fluid and primary oil for the primary.

Congrats on your bike
