Looked into the updated antenna, but not sure if mine is old or new design. Bike is a '17, and really dont want to spend $70 to find out. Played around with my XM antenna placement instead. Best seemed to be resting on top of dash, but I want it inside fairing. Stock location is about worst signal location as one could get. Made a small angle bracket to attach to the long stud sticking out front of radio mounting plate, positioning the XM antenna down low so it doesnt stick up higher than mount, otherwise fairing wont go back on. I used to be loosing signal every few minutes in clear skies. With the new location, its cloudy and overcast this evening, and a test ride proved 3 bars 99% of time, with a flicker to 2 bars. Never lost signal. I only assume clear skis will be even better! Bracket shown is just a quicky to test location before making a permanent one and getting it PC'd if it works out in this location. Just thought Id share my results

us1fountain - your bike is a 17 - did you just purchase the XM module. If so, look at the date on the box - if after June 2016, you may have the new antenna.

Where I am lost is you said you made a bracket. My new kit with the new antenna, came with a bracket.

Yes, my kit was dated after that, and yes, mine came with the under faring bracket too. I chose to mount the antenna outside, on top, just didn't want to even chance having a problem. Reception has been incredible, I have no complaints.

My bike is a '17 CVO SG, purchased Sept '16, so it comes equiped with the XM radio and antenna/bracket. Its just worthless as the location they chose for the bracket/ant. appears more for convenience than operation.

My ant. has NGVA1 on the sticker. According to the TSS website, this one is a 2nd gen, while the latest has NGVA3 on it. Claims to have higher gain. Do you recall what yours said?

These are cheap enough to try, but who wants 20' of cable?

Are the car antenna's, and the motorcycle antenna's the same? The connector in the picture looks slightly different then the HD one I just installed on my bike. I picked my kit up from New Castle HD.
It was out of stock, but they ordered it for me, and I had it here in under a week.

Any other antenna then the one that comes with the Harley XM kit will need an adapter to be able to connect to the Harley antenna input.

This is true and exactly what I did. A $10 adapter plus any XM antenna is still cheaper than what HD wants for their upgraded antenna. Given how short my HD XM antenna lasted, I was willing to go another route. And 20 foot of cable wasn't as much of a pain to deal with as I thought it would be.

New Castle HD is $68.38, but they get you good on shipping.
