Coolant overflow

Coolant overflow
I have a 2014 FLHTK. My problem has happened three or four times . The first time it happened I had only rode it 4 miles from a cool start up and when I stopped the coolant tank overflowed and put About 6 ounces on the ground. The shop replace the thermostat and coolant . Then about a year later same thing happen. Does anyone have any idea why it would run 7000 miles in a full year before we do this again , and what would cause it . I've had the whole system checked, and pressurized so I know that the cap and recovery tank Are good. It does not overheat and I do not get any type of codes or warning lights on the dash it just acts like he pushes too much fluid back into the recovery tank and out the overflow hose It's put away for the winter now and I haven't had time to really test it out from the last service . Any help would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately I don't have any answers for you. I also own a 14 FLHTK. I have never had the coolant overflow the tank. I had one unexplained coolant loss at 18,000 miles/10 months old. When a friend asked where you put the coolant, I popped the cover off the lower only to find an empty overflow tank. I took it to the dealer and they changed the filler neck under the 'Product Program' and checked the system for leaks but found none. After they refilled the system, the coolant level slowly dropped less than an inch over the next 1,000 miles. I assume this was due to the system purging itself of air. Coolant was added to bring it back to the full line and it remained that way for 30,000 miles only dropping about 3/8". I changed the coolant at 48,000 miles and again the level dropped slightly until all air was purged. Over the next 29,000 miles the coolant has dropped about a 1/2". I about ready to do another coolant change as I have almost 77,000 miles on the bike now and 29,000 miles since the last coolant change.
Hope you get yours figured out. Good luck.

When was your bike made? I have a 2014 FLHTK and had the same issue happen to me. Wasn't sure where it overflowed. Took it to dealer and they did all the checks you mentioned. Then about 2 weeks later (Dec 2013) H-D put out on website what was called a Product Program 0916 which replaced the filler neck because the material on the original would warp when it got hot & spill out fluid. You may want to check this out.

Have you done anything like replace the coolant? Not guessing so, but one thing that has been brought up as a possible cause of coolant puking is air in the cooling system. There is a process where you are supposed to run the water pump with the engine off and radiator cap removed, for 5 or 10 minutes to bleed out any trapped air. Not sure if this is happening to you but if your coolant has been replaced or any significant amount added maybe it's possible. On my 2014 FLHTK, the first few weeks I owned the bike it spat out maybe an ounce or so, and nothing more since then. So far I've had to add a few ounces to the recovery bottle along the way. Good luck in your quest. I'm assuming your bike had any coolant recall work done if any was required. Can't fully remember any more, but I think the early 2014 models there was a cooling system recall, my bike was made after that recall.

Mine was just about the last 2014 made. The 2015's had been out for 3 months. It has the correct tank, cap, ect. The last time they work on it they purged the system, tighten everything, clamps ect. They ran it on the dyno for quit some time, then they let it sit outside the shop and idle for what they called a long period of time and couldn't get it to over flow. Like I said, after they last worked on it, I really didn't have enough time to put on enough miles to see if it was fixed, and who knows how long that would take, to see if it's fixed, since I once had it worked on and it ran fine for a full year August to August and 7000 miles before it empty out the tank.

Hi.
I have FLHTK ELECTRA GLIDE 2014. I have the same problem.
I have coolant tank overflowed after engine stop.
I replaced thermostat (old was broken).
Cooling pump works, fans works too. The coolant system is sealed.
I tried to use different coolants with different params, all time the same.
I replaced coolant by manual.
I din't ride this bike yet. Maybe coolant system still have some air and and it will escape after few rides?
Can you advice something?
Thanks and sorry for my English.
