You don't sound in love with your current bike, even if it's just the color (superior blue was the best color for '15). Let the dealer have the pak and lowers for the additional $700 trade-in value.
In exchange, you get a bike that comes with a tour-pak, lowers, more warranty (which seems important to you), 20k fewer miles, AND the water-cooled heads. Gravy is a color you like more.
Maybe lean-on them to let you keep the old one for a weekend to swap parts yourself.
Your logic is sound. I actually do love the bike, minus the color. Which I don't hate......I've just grown tired of the color and didn't want a black bike originally. Honestly, I don't think I'd be in love with any Harley other than my 2003 RKC, which I still have. It just kind of has soul to me, despite the fact that the 2015 is an AMAZING touring bike and is leaps and bounds better than the 03. I look at my '15 as more transportation/touring bike vs. my 03, which has been with me for 100K. I doubt the 2016 would speak to me like the 03 would as well.

Sometimes.......you just need to talk it out

Hit them back with an insane low counter offer, they will say no and there you have it: keeping Blue!

No difference between them mechanically, just a year and some window dressing so why bother. Gonna jump go the new M8 platform with all the upgrades.

Not no but hell no! You can get a new set of tins on fleabay for a fraction of that. Or get a full on custom paint job. Also tourpaks are much cheaper to buy as well. Save your money. Buy some new tins on eBay and then sell yours for what you bought the new tins for. Then purchase matching tourpak. You will be out a couple grand at most and still have your original bike.

WHY LET THE DEALER HAVE THEM FOR THAT PRICE, Hell Tour Packs sell on here all day long for 700, maybe more if it's already the color someone wants. And the lowers if they are HD not knock offs, would bring 200.00 easy,,

OP, what sound system is he swapping out? Do you have the stock stuff still? Do that yourself, save the 1,000 bucks for it, reinstall on the new bike,, sweat equity man, sweat equity

I've put down the crackpipe and realized this is a bad deal all around. I'm going to call and lowball them, which will set my mind at ease when they say no

Default Lowball...

I was in kind of a similar situation a year ago. Had a 14 SGS with 30K miles and pushing the end of the warranty period. Decided that what I really wanted was an ultra classic for the tourpack, lowers, and driving lights. So...debating if I should upgrade mine or trade up. Ended up getting a deal on a 16.

The deal you describe doesn't sound bad, but certainly not "great". As others have said...low ball them and be prepared to walk away. You might also swing back in closer to the end of the month.

I agree with other folks.....however, if you do the stereo/pipes yourself, save 1K, making it 7K, then keep your tour pack and lowers and sell yourself, another 800-1K...your down to around 6K difference...Does that number count tax? .. and you were going to spend $1400 on a ESP..so do the math.... if you work hard enough you can quantify anything!!! ...as far as the dealer offer, its just that..an offer...they can do better...

KBB is subjective, but KBB trade in on 15 Special is 17, 800 / trade in on 16 RGU is 19300...so there's that...2018s will be out pretty soon!!!

Good Luck!!!
